The house lights dimmed and the curtains slowly drew open to present DRACULA, the first play ever per- formed in the KV auditorium. Many weeks of hard work were spent prior to the performance. Lines and blocking were learned, costumes fitted, and make-up was designed to go with each character. This meant changing Dracula ' s (Jeff DeBoer) blond hair to black. Beards and mous- taches also had to be made for Van- Helsing (George Grevenstuk) and Dr. Seward (John Tillema). The artisitic make-up transformed them into en- tirely different people. The leading female part was played by Susie Nordstrom with her devoted fiancee Jonathon (Mike Hopkins) always at her side. All members of the cast played their characters beautifully. Although DRACULA was meant to be a serious drama, some of the younger people in the audience thought a few parts to be extremely funny such as the maniac (Ed Tillema) howling on the stage, and the maid (Joan Kingma; slapping Butterworth (Butch Jungles). DRACULA was under the direction of Carole Womelsdorff. The combina- tion of her coaching and the cast’s hard work, made KV ' s first play a tremendous success. 20
