HtULB .u:t TABLE OF CONTENTS HURRI-KANE ’78 KANE AREA SENIOR HIGH KANE, PENNSYLVANIA HELLO (he-lo), interj., common exclamation of greetings; in telephoning or to express surprise; hi! “Hello, Good-bye” A good theme, but what docs it mean? The Beatles song. “Hello, Goodbye”. Maybe they had a clue . . . Hello and Good-bye are two of the most commonly used words in the English language. Hello on Monday morning can brighten your day almost as much as a Good-bye on Friday afternoon. There is symbolism in the words. “Hello. Good-bye”. Hello (go) is being said if a person really likes school and feels that the twelve years are worth it. But. a Good-bye is being said by the student who feels that school is nothing to them but a hassle, something required. 'Life is a constant Hello and Good-bye with changes happening so rapidly. Wc experience new activities constantly while going through school. We say Good-bye to the old things which linger in our memory, and trudge ahead, only to say “Hello” again. Different people arc saying I lello to that which wc arc saying Good-bye to. Wc sec and feel your concern about our todays, and your genuine interest in our tomorrows. It seems that your support, guidance and time is always there to try and solve any problem. Physics or any other. Who was right there beside the Class of ’78, decorating for the prom? Who counted and recounted the money from the magazine drive? And who is always in room 107 after school to give extra help? You, Mr. Boyer. You—a father, husband, teacher, former coach, community worker, and faithful fisherman. You are all of these and much more, but we will remember you most of all for being our friend! Thank you. 7 A “Hello” is said when the sophomores arrive, there is finally a feeling of being a class. You work for your class as the years roll by. You grow, experience, and learn. Then the hello being said is by the seniors. More work for your class, but now the feeling of pride is there. “Hey, I belong to that class. We worked hard for our Washington trip, we sold tickets to our plays, put on a prom, and sold magazines. High-Life is an exciting activity for everyone. The staff writers and photographers press in every minute to meet their deadline. The pressroom is small but they all manage to get their individual jobs finished. Once in awhile the editor will become hyperactive because she finds out a couple lines arc left out of the master sheets. But working together, the staff always solves the problems. There is always a staff member that will drop by the pressroom and lend a helping hand. “You did WHAT with the article?”. . . “Page four is in the wastebasket?!”. . .“She typed that how many times before she got it right?” The newspaper came out once a month. It was taken to Walker’s Printing Press, and then picked up and put together by the journalism class. Some of the projects that its fifty members participate in arc UNICEF, clean-up for the United Way, acquiring Christmas gifts for the underprivileged, assisting in the adult education classes, and helping Kane's elderly get to the public library. Doing a fine job on the coaching staff were Mr. Haight, his first year as head coach for the girls, and Miss Adamson, who was welcomed back as the assistant and J.V. coach. The junior varsity also had a winning season, with a record identical to that of the varsity, eight wins and six losses. The captains on the J.V. squad were Donna Bradley and Kelly Larson. Eight years ago Kane High said “Hello” to a new track coach. He was fresh out of college without any coaching experience. Some people may have been pessimistic, but none are now! Dave Brown built a track powerhouse that is noted throughout the state. Mr. Brown, in saying good-bye, may we say “thank you” for the recognition you’ve given our school. And good luck to coaches Tom Cccchctti and Jim Sirianni. In the eight years Mr. Brown has been here, he has won the District 9 and McKean County Track Titles four times. He has coached four State Medal winners, including one State Champion and State Record Holder. Kathy felt honored to represent our school, and the experience has helped her grow in many ways. HOMECOMING ‘77 Homecoming week started off with “Spirit Week” in which all classes showed their enthusiasm. The pep rally and parade on Friday night really psyched the football players up for the big game on Saturday against the F.C.C. Crusaders. Jo Kulka was crowned Homecoming Queen during the halftime ceremonies. Although the mighty Kane Wolves were defeated, the spirit and excitement prevailed at the Homecoming dance.
