I think a class may be likened to a tree . . . Just as a seedling is nurtured-witli tender care, so too, are these students. I They are carefully fed statistics and memorizable data but the inborn creative desire is also present which enables them to grow and sprout new ideas. The basic theories of education make up the trunk ancl theories stem from this mainspring. Students may feel that they are one with each other in relation to these theories, but as they climb the tree they branch out and develop their own ideas of what they conceive things to be. Old methods are shed and new ones sought. This whole developmental process is very slow and painful. Unfortunately, many never leave the ground. It may be that they are content to remain at the bottom or that they are unaware of the existence of any tree at all. Some students are just 'Tate bloomers ; the'-;potential is present but it takes them a while to realize and utilize this potential. These various types of students are thrust into a building and organized as a class. The experiences which this group shares are numerous, varied and unforgettable. Of course, there comes a time when they must be severed from the trunk in order to enter the next phase of their lives. Mary Wooditch ! H
