since freshman year I sat each Academic Awards in awe at the handful seniors receiving those with their names gold print. Did he really a 3.85 GPA for four ? Laua'e, which is pictured throughout our book, is symbolic to Hawaiians of things deeply loved and fondly remembered. When crushed, Iaua'e takes on the fragrance of maile, a vine of great importance and value to ka po'e hula, to hula people. The hands in our picture belong to Momi Lau and Matthew Patterson. Momi, who made the lei used here and on each of the two other feature section openers, is the granddaughter of the proprietress of Sweetheart's Lei Shop - ia no ka pono - o ka ho'ohu1i i ka lima ilalo, 'a'ole o ka ho'ohuli i luna. This is what it should be - to turn the hands palms down, not palms up. No one can work with the palms of his hands turned up. When a person is always busy, he is said to keep his palms down. She learned the art of Iaua'e and la'i lei-making, however, in her hula club at Kamehameha, and this lei, she says, is one that she can finally be proud of. 4371. ' schools. So I stayed up nights cramming. I joined more extra-curricular activities and took on more leadership positions. I tried desperately to make up for four years of high school in one. And in the the end, I was still sitting' on the bleachers watching my classmates be honored. It was then, four years too late, that I learned a valuable lesson. The lesson that studying hard and taking advantage of all that Kamehameha has to offer will benefit you.
