A d break. The I Love Freshmen sign that she is nice. ,ni-W udrey Hefhn smdes m the SPC dufmg her Above Monica Letoto graciously listens to someone s stale jokes during her fourth period drama class Mae Okay, class. Let's talk about nice people. What are they? People who are nice, of course. There are four species of peoplei niceus. ln calss A, we have the l'm-O.K.-if-you are's, who are wonderfully nice all the time, to themselves. In class B we have the Hi-Byes, who are nice enough to tell you hi and bye in the halls whether they know your name or not. ln class C are the Cool Dudes who help you with your homework and let you use their pom-poms at a game. The fee is tax deductible. Now, at the end of our list, we have the extreme crop of niceness, the smiley faces, the Joy Manns of mankind. You take five minutes to get off the phone with them because you go through the rituals of adding, Take care, Say hi to your Mom, See you tomorrow, and the 500 OK s. They draw hearts, rainbows and flowers in an array of pastels on their thank-you notes. To join the extreme-of-niceness club, you must posess at least one of the following: a light blue Mickey Mouse shirt. a scented Hello Kitty pen, or a box of cake mix and 50 birthday balloons for last-minute occasions. And if not. just smile a lot. Why do some poeple go out of their way to be nice? Hey, maybe they're actors! Nah. Why risk a Hollywood career for San Andreas fault- sized smiling wrinkles ? Guess they're not acting, then. Anybody who can act that much MUST be for real. So what's their probIem?l? Well, maybe they enjoy watching the whole world grinning back at them. lt must be a lot better than having the whole world frowning at them, that's for sure. CBesides, you use less muscles to smile than frown.J So, class, your assignment for today is to walk around all day with a foolish grin on your face. Either that or just try to make somebody feel good. Like they always say. it's nice to be nice. l X00
