' an ii, ,V If More like a restaurant than a school cafeteria Can you believe it? This is our senior year, and we have only one year to use the new 'Akahi. For the past three years, we have used the old 'Akahi which was still nice, but l'm glad we have this new one. I'm trying to make the most of the new 'Akahi with all of its extravagance: the size, the tofutti machine, the porcelain plates . . . you know. those porcelain plates are a students' worst nightmare. lt was embarassing enough to drop those plastic plates, but can you imagine dropping a porcelain plate? lt would be horrendous! And how about the silverware? lt's so shiny you don't even want to touch it. Nevertheless, the food is great, and I look forward to lunch in an atmosphere that seems more like a restaurant's than a school cafeteria's. Michelle Kauhane Kane'ohe, O'ahu

My artistic ability stemmed from my childhood drawings. You remember drawing the standard American kid picture of your basic apple tree, your basic house, and a basic element of every picture: the sun oming up between two mountains? lt wasn't until l got older that I saw a need for my sketches to mature. I began to notice that these drawings didn't look in the slightest like the home in which l lived, the banyan tree on the corner, or the sun up above. When someone has a fire in their na'au it means that he posesses a desire to learn something. It is because of this fire that l constantly drive myself to draw a wider variety of things. l always try to improve a picture's realistic feel. And that is the core around which my art revolves, my talent stemming from it. - Delmann Naipo The fire within the artist Eia Hawai'i
