Kamehameha Student Credit Union Legislative Apprenticeship Pro .ram providing banking services for the students of the kamehameha schools was the main interest of , '5'-H this years student credit union. it was staffed by a ' group of student members who gave their extra N' time and effort to servicing the monetary needs of students in grades seven through twelve. Slum-'W r .l'ff2Zfi'5'00 'Gt 'Q I many of us have wondered what the people in that big grey build- ing they call the state capitol really do, but most of us have simply been content to wonder. this year, however, a few individuals have done more than wonder. these four -joan pokipala, veronica garcia, cheryl yin, and denise kaaa - were selected as kamehameha's legis- lative apprentices. their job was to assist a state senator or represen- tative throughout the sixty day legislative session, by permrming general ofHce work, and attending important hearings. in their free time, they researched the legislative system, developed next years apprenticeship program, and involved themselves with other special projects. their work was very challenging, and each apprentice found reward in her increased knowledge of state affairs, in her new-found maturity, and in her growing sense of responsibility to the rel world, top left: credit union-Il r. chun, m. main, j. hart, l. richardson. 22 m. akiyama, d. kaniaupio fadvisorl, t. ellertson. top right: d. kaniaupio, left legislative apprentices-Il c. yin, j. pokipala. 21 d. kaaa, v. garcia. above left: senator milton holt and d. kaaa. above right: c. yin and representative dwight yoshimura. j. e. t.s.ffs.a.!credit unionflegislature 61
