Brown Bags To Stardom 'good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the kamehameha schoolis first brown bags to stardom competition. these were the words of emcee, shawn 'til dawn sweeney. after weeks of preparations and preliminary competition, six finalists competed at kekuhaupi'o for statewide recognition on december 1, 1982. dj. shawn sweeney was not only impressed with the high caliber ofkamehamehals talent, but he also complemented the student body on its '2Jride, spirit, and positive energy. a rock band, two hawaiian groups, two hula kahiko entries and a soloist competed before a panel of five judges. the mighty ones from heaven, a group of' seniors consisting of curran arakaki, conrad lum, robert kekaula, and max kalahele harmonized beautifully to a medley of koke'e and railway station, capturing the hearts of' audience and judges alike. hula group na hala o mapuanangained second place honors, with solo dancer vanessa gascon winning third place. for winning the competition, the mighty ones from heaven went on to represent kamehameha at the brown bags to stardom finals, and appeared on KIKIS brown bags to stardom III album. clockwise from right: 1. sherri or- ton, debra downey, and michele cude. 2. vanessa gascon. 3. wil- liam mossman, scott sproat, and kalani tom. 4. jeff cockleman. 5. max kalahele. 6. shawn sweeney and kamasami kong. 7. curran arakaki, conrad lum, robert ke- kaula, and max kalahele. 8. na- lani jenkins, parker kaneakua, angela fernandez, joseph james, blaise haai, and greg breithaupt.
