The 95th Annual Founders Day Program At Kekuhaupi'o We Celebrate after nearly a century, you'd think the ceremony would change or lose some of its meaning. not true. a speech, per- haps, is changed, a dance added, and a pledge modified, but the songs still bring tears and the spirit of thanksgiving, above all, remains intact. at kekuhaupi'o, this and every year, we offer heartfelt aloha. this page clockwise from right: walter min stands guard at pauahis portrait. an elementary student can hardly contain his excitement over the mo'olelo. president darvill expresses his approval. the earth is the lord's and the fullness thereof'-eightl: graders recite their pledge. guests from western samoa enjoy a front row vantage point. another student sits quietly during the senior processional. seventh and eighth graders watch intently. The 95th Annual Founder s Day Program At Mauna'ala We Meditate the torch has been passed to a new generation. the legacy lives on. on this day, december 19, 1982, the kamehameha ohana gather to honor their founder, bernice pauahi paki bishop at manun'ala, the royal mausoleum. 151 years ago, strong winds and stormy weather announced the birth of this ali 'i. here, the Weather is a replica of the day of her birth. the mana is strong, but for our ali 'i nothing less is expected. the princess still reigns in the hearts of her children. and We, the pupils of the kamehameha schools, strive to obtain all that she expects from us. this page clockwise from top left: administrators look on at maun- a'ala, kahu gives a prayer. mike pavich, bruce mossman, richard lyman, kahu, and suzanne kaupu get ready mr the ceremony. nola nahulu sings aloha pauahif' an elementary student awaits the crypt-decorating portion of the ceremony. ka Xahumanu society ladies join in the day of rememberance. opposite page clockwise from top left: aunty sarah nakoa says a few words. jack darvill and jean ariyoshi participate in a song. lynelle sakamoto guards the crypt. mike pavich asks Har a moment of silent thanksgiving. a kupuna gives dignity to the program. caretaker, aunty namahana maioho, sits with oha trustee roy henham. suzanne kaupu chants her tribute to pauahi. bruce mossman speaks about the importance ofpauahi in his life.
