55T • i Mr. George M. Collins, President The Hawaiian word Imua, translated into English as forward. expresses the universal urge for achievement. In the mid-western United States they refer to it as get up and get. In New England they call it gumption. Longfellow described it beautifully in his poem, Excelsior. about the youth who bore a banner with a strange device. There are many other ways in which to define or symbolize that infinite quality of human nature we call ambition. By maintaining a wholesome and studious atmosphere here at Ka- mehameha we strive to kindle the fires of worthy ambition in all youth who enter our doors. There is much room at the top of the ladder in after life for those who have the brains and perserverance to follow step by step the plotted course of their careers. This is particularly true today in fields of Science and Engineering. As another school year comes to a close, the Trustees hope that each member of the class of 1956 has found in these Schools the inspiration and driving force that will carry onward to ultimate success.
