Like the first day of this year, when you walked into the school, the newly painted lockers surprised you. And the windows of the school were eliminated during the summer for heating purposes. Some things did not change, though. There were no new teachers, and the same subjects were being taught. Exciting events took place, such as the basketball games, the Homecoming dance, the Prom, and field day. Did you ever think you'd make it through all the tests and pop quizzes? Sometimes you wondered. Looking back on the good times is a specialty for seniors. This was their last year, and the memories won't be forgotten by them or any student at KHS. Changes made this year brought about new beginnings, and made this year one to remember. Wilbur Wizard casts his spell, And stars magically come alive. They seem to have a smile or two From the year 1984-1985! Wilbur takes his magic wand And waves it in the air. To get a few new faces. That with none they'll compare! Most of you who read this paragraph can years and remember your first day as a freshmen. It was a nervous and tense time. You weren't sure exactly what to expect. The same was true for the '84-'85 freshmen. I was mostly worried about not being able to find my classes ' said freshman Angie Schulte, It turned out a lot better than I expected. Dennis Karcher said, I wasn't that nervous until a group of seniors walked up and knocked my books from my arms. I guess my day was all and all not that Don't bother me. I'm reading!! esch. TO WASH DISHES Arlene Siefker Dennis Siefker Dan Turnwald Will those cameras ever leave us alone? Freshmen were nominated to be the dishwashers for the '84-'85 school year. It seemed very simple; however, some freshmen weren't too happy about the idea. The worse thing about it, said Dena Schroeder, was getting dishpan hands. Although the opinion was split, everyone agreed on the fact that it still wasn't fair that freshmen always get stuck with the dirty work. But Hey Linda! Getting wet? then again, someday FRESHMEN will be SENIORS! Jackie Selhorst Then there were those like Dennis Karcher who said, It wasn't that bad. We got out of some class time and we got a free meal everyday we worked. My Friend. — Author Unknown CLASS ADVISOR Mr. Robert Gerdeman Class Ensemble singing Friends Forever.” ATION Salutatorian Nancy Siefker Valedictorian Tracy Mead VALEDICTORIAN SPEECH On behalf of the senior class, I would like to welcome everyone to the class of 1985's commencement exercises. Today marks not only an ending, but also a beginning. We are leaving behind our childhood. filled with many fond memories that won't be forgotten, and we are looking towards the future and what it holds for us. Our family and friends have played an important role in our lives and will continue to do so even though we look ahead to the unknown. Throughout our lives, our family and friends have done so much for us that it would be very difficult to include everything they have done, but I thought of three things that stick out in my mind. First and most importantly, is the, love and support our family and friends give us. They are always there for us with advice or just a hug during times of need. Secondly, our family and friends, accept us as we are. They don't try to change us or force their views and opinions on us. They allow us to be ourselves and to make our own decisions, even when they are not the best. And thirdly, our family and friends give us the motive to strive for our goals. By gently nudging us to fulfill our greatest potentials, we go forth and attempt to make them proud of our endeavors. Then came eight days of mini-band camp from 8-12 for the show at the Putnam County Fair. Next, our vacation came in the month of July, and we could finally forget about band camp for a week from 8-3 to learn our show for the fall competitions. In order to qualify for the State O.M.E.A. Competitions, we had to get a superior rating in a competition beforehand. We missed a superior rating at Lexington by one and a quarter points, and finally earned our superior at Fostoria with a rating of 257, (Class C only needed to have a total of 225). At last November 3 came and the Kalida Wildcat Marching Band went to Franklin County Stadium. The band proudly brought home an excellent rating and drum major Chris Fuerst — a superior rating. This year proved to be worthwhile to Mr. and Mrs. Myers and all the band members. Most people dread a five hour bus ride, but we all survived it on our way to New Philadelphia. The Kalidascope staff worked hard this year to provide a good historical record of the 1984-1985 school year. The staff had a fund-raiser to make money to add special effects to the yearbook. The fund-raiser was an Arts and Crafts fair which took place on October 20, 1984. There were many exhibits by local and out-of-town people. Lunch was sold by the staff. The day took a lot of planning but overall it went well. Also, this year the yearbook staff did something to promote next year's book sales. A free yearbook was raffled off to anyone who bought a yearbook. Sheryl Schmersal won the book, and her money was returned to her for the book she had already purchased. And finally the Kalidascope staff had a pizza party at Garric-vick's on April 23 to end a year of fun but hard work. Tina's bright-eyed and ready to work on her pages. CYO LET’S GO FRONT ROW: Dan Foppe, Greg Giesige, Craig Hanneman, Dean Foppe, Jon Honigfort, Dennis Hoffman. SECOND ROW: Roger Giesige, Joe Decker, Kevin Hanneman. Mark Maag, Mike Ellerbrock, Jeff Warnecke, Randy Fuerst. Ron Knapke. and Fran Vorst. Kalida's CYO teams showed this year that sports is active outside of KHS. With coaches like Denny Smith, Dale Knueven, Gary Vorst, and Daren Miller for the A-team, and Phil Fuerst and Bob Oard for the B-team, Kalida s CYO teams played their hardest to bring about a victory. The A-team had a 13-7 record, while the B-team had a 5-7 record. The A-team participated in two tournaments, the Putnam County league tournament and the Toledo Diocese tournament. The B-team was happy just to play the season out. SOCCER — EXCELLENCE OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL FRONT ROW: Chris Reynolds, Dennis Schulte, Dan Turnwald, Mike Warnecke, Craig Hanneman, and Dennis Karcher. SECOND ROW: Terry Meyer, Dave Hovest, Gene Kohls, Roger Giesige, Rick Beckman, and Ron Brinkman. Soccer is not a well known sport around Putnam County, but it is starting to take its place at KHS. This year the Putnam County soccer league included various students from Kalida High School who kicked their way to a successful season. They lost few games and were PCL champs. They worked hard to achieve this, and we think they deserve much recognition for everything they accomplished.
