m tianam rr In the years ahead, you will want to look back and rediscover lost memories. In this book we have tried to capture all of these memories t for you. Things that were so important to V us when they happened: Homecoming, W teachers and classes we shared, the school I spirit, the club meetings and projects, the hor-' ror of exams and the joy of having substitute teachers, the basketball and baseball games, prom, graduation ... but mainly, the close trends and acquaintances we all had. We need reminders, for time is a continuing flow, constantly changes things as we know them now. People change, often for the better and sometimes for the worse, but we as individuals can do nothing to prevent these changes. We can, however, remember. The joy of gaining new friends or the sorrow of losing few may in the annals of time be lost, but our friends Cthe most important things we uld never be forgotten. This is I e of this book, to enable us to M t and remember all of the M and events that somehow ;d our lives. Whether I or bad, joyful or sor- 5 vful, these memories should never be A Glance Back i Pi Fall Back in Time As fall begins, the marching band season comes to a close while Cross Country, Volleyball, and Golf are just underway. What a refreshing thing spring is after a long winter. 9 The 1981 (or It all began late last spring With all the spring concerts done We put away our oboes and things The 1981 Marching Season had begun. With Memorial Day coming, there's music to learn Like Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, The Star Spangled Banner and for the parade A number called Off the Line. Memorial Day's gone — school is out. Time for summer practice — oh, great. You can't sleep in, you've gotta get up Rehearsals start at 8. Rehearsel Rehearse! Rehearse! Patience is wearing thin And just when you think your legs will give out. The boss says Do it again! A whole new world of music to learn Temptation was right up our alley. The horn line with flags — he's really gone crazy. I can't wait to see what he's got for the finale. Horns with flags? It can't be that hard. It really looks like fun. Until we found without any doubt, The guard instructor is Atilla the Hun. Fireman's Convention Parade We're off to the very first test. We tried really hard, the Myers' were pleased But we came out second best. Music got better, routines started to jell But then the weather man blundered. It's hard to learn a show for the fair With the practice field six feet under. The Fourth of July finally arrived And so did the County Fair. All said Kalida was the best band even though O-G and Grove were there. Five weeks off, what a relief. But somebody got the notion To start early in August so we Could do General Putnam's Music in Motion. School's back in session, Di is queen For Pioneer which came and went. And now it's field competition time. Let's see if the summer was well spent. The wind was strong at Antwerp Could we handle the flags in the gusts? We sure did — we did our best And five bands bit the dust. licrcKro bkc.K Shoes 10 Scasorx irv Ijeview With wKit- Sh exacts ) Then on to Tipp City (poor Jack couldn't go) And volleyball girls had a game But the rifles threw high, and we came back With a second Grand Champs to our name. Those blue flags are really a problem. How to get out there and feed 'em To all 37 horns out there on the field So we imported help from Sweden. Next week it's off to Fairborn To try to qualify for State. We had four seconds to spare on the clock. And the show was really great. We climbed into the visitors' stands To wait and listen and hear We saw some bands we'd never seen And Jeff picked up a souvenir. We couldn't stay for the results you see We had another show that night. So back in the busses, and hit the road Off to McDonald's for a bite. Everybody was cold at Arcadia Both the girls and the fellas And when the results came back from Fairborn Myers wouldn't tell us. So we lined up, went out on the field Freezing on the exterior But the announcer warmed us up when he said The rating was a Superior. We're going to state, but before we do that There are other obligations to fill So back in the busses, heading south. This time it's off to Brookville. We won our class thought it was good But Myers thought it was sour. He told us so on Monday and I think We stood at attention for an hour. So we worked hard to improve the show that week We were busy little birds. The show improved 100 percent. Only to come in third. Now it's to State — ain't it great! Who knows what the future holds Just hope we can remember in Columbus All that we've been told. Before I close I have to say And I speak for my wife, too, without jest. We scream and yell and work you hard But we really think you're the best! — Charles Myers 11 Saturday, November 7, we start out bright and early for our trip to state. With the MEMORIES of all the practice to make perfect! On this day so cold and windy, we load up our flags and things, feeling like WORKING CLASS DOGS in the scurry of the morning. ON THE ROAD AGAIN filled with excitement and ready to do our final show of the season. After the long ride we get out of the buses, grab a bite and get dressed. Then it's time to get PHYSICAL, stretching muscles we never knew we had! It's getting closer to show time so we have our pep talk and prayer when Mr. Myers says DON'T STOP BELIEVIN'. Out on the field we pass the 45 yard line and you might say we're the STARS ON 45. After we've shown what we've got, we climb into the stands and SOONER OR LATER they will announce the results. The results come in and like they say THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL! We received an excellent! Now it's back on the buses to Kalida we go and we all agree it's time to CELEBRATE!!! One of the service projects this year that proved to be lots of fun was our Trick or Treat for UNICEF. Two service projects that benefited our local community members were Thanksgiving baskets that we gave to all of the shut-in individuals in our community and at Christmas time, FHAer's went to Brookhill school and entertained the students there. Another service project that proved to be successful was the daffodil sale for the American Cancer Society. The money from this sale was donated for cancer research. The two money making projects that we did to benefit our own club were a Creative Circle party and cake raffles at all of our home basketball games. In March, the FHS Chapter went to visit the Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. On May 13, the members hosted a banquet for their parents. At that time, the new officers were installed and awards were presented. Rita! Sleeping on the job? In August, 1981, four IOE girls traveled to the Ohio State Fair to participate in the Business Office Education exhibit. For two days, six hours a day, the girls demonstrated various typewriters and word processors. In October, the entire IOE class attended the OEA state convention in Columbus to take part in the election of state officers. On-the-job work experience was held the month of April. This training provided the IOE girls with the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge they learned during the past two years to actual office situations. We have the musical, baseball, tennis, and the beginning of a new marching band season. During the spring of 1982, the seniors looked forward to their class trip to Chicago while the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen stayed in school and worried about exams. Graduation at the end of May was a happy occasion for the seniors, yet also a little sad because it was the last time the class would be together as a whole. In the next few pages, you will see the memories that spring has showered on us. On May 14, the seniors took off for the Windy City. They first toured the Chicago Police Station where they were shown how the crime fighting system works. Afterwards, the seniors visited the Police Museum. Here they saw various types of weapons and crimes. The afternoon was spent touring the Planatarium, Natural History, and Aquarium Museums. The seniors were on their own to enjoy the sites of all three museums and the nearby Michigan Lake. At 4:30, they climbed 1,353 feet to the top of the world's tallest building, the Sears Tower. Next, the seniors chowed down at Benihana of Tokyo. They were served salad, soup, shrimp, mushrooms and onions, rice, steak, bean sprouts, ice cream, and tea. All the food was prepared in front of them. Their final stop was The Drury Lane Theatre where they saw Al Anthony's Superstars. The dancers and performers were exciting, especially Elvis Presley who kissed a member of the class. We arrived home early Saturday morning. Hanging around at the museum. ' vy v If we had the chance to d Blyth Wurth, Valedictorian Well, Doug, thirty more steps and we'll be graduates. I believe the best part of our life is beginning today. In a few moments, we'll be graduates. Having successfully completed twelve years of education, we'll be given the opportunity to make our mark in the world. It is a challenge we'll be accepting when we receive our diplomas. A challenge that involves a great deal of responsibility and effort on our part. I would like to leave you with one thought, and I believe Mr. Myers said it best when he told us over and over in marching band — Be the best you can be. Don't sell yourself short. Remember — the greatest thing in life is the ability to choose your own direction. Each of you can be a success in whatever you attempt. Just have confidence in yourself, because we all have confidence in you. Blyth Wurth, Valedictorian I finally made itl Kathy Schnipke, Salutatorian Honor Students: Nadine Kahle, Cindy Maag, Mary Beth Berheide 78 it all again, would we ... could we? The world is yours to discover and explore ... May your dreams of today be your joys of tomorrow. Farewell To A 1982 Graduate ... Katarina Sollenberg was an exchange student from Sweden who made the 1982 school year more memorable by sharing many special moments with the students and faculty at KHS. She participated in volleyball, FHA, the Foreign Language Club, chorus, was a flag carrier in marching band, and showed her dramatic talents as a territory girl in Oklahoma! Graduation day is a happy day for all Seniors, but to me it means that everything is coming towards an end. It seems like I just came here, but when you have a lot of fun, time goes fast. I think everybody here is very open and friendly. I didn't have to worry about being accepted and getting friends. I have made a lot of friends and I will miss you all when I go back to Sweden. Katarina Sollenberg 79 Farewell Now, My Friend I love you, my friend 1 you're quite dear to me. A true friend you are and always will be. But you're leaving me soon And going your own way. Perhaps we will meet In the future some day. You've left me with memories Of good times we've had. To treasure forever And make me feel glad. I wish you good luck In all that you do May all of life's pleasures Come your way, too. Farewell now, my friend And please may you find Some thoughts of me Always in your mind.
