The Hornet track team is having its best season since the war, with ten letter- men and many outstanding newcomers forming the nucleus of Coach Ernest Kirk- man's first Kazoo track team. In their first five meets, the thinclads scored two dual wins, 93 V2 -37Vz over Valparaiso, and 96-36 over Calvin, won two triangular meets, in one scoring 94-1X5 points to 35-7,110 for Hope and 32-1f10 for Grand Rapids JC, and total- ing 82V2 points to 50 for Adrian and 29V2 for Alma in the other, and lost to Albion, 44-87. Lettermen include Stanley Chalmers, Bob Chamberlain, Melvin Reed, Don Van Horn, Fred Winkler, Milton Christen, Kryn Ihrman, Howard Merchant, Everett Bier- ma and Bob Binhammer. Outstanding new men are Walter McConner, Lee Van Haften, Bob Neeser, Roger Burns, Edward Yaple, David Allen, Maurice Kaser and .lim Stefoff.

Bafiedall Baseball entered its second season in twenty-one years at K College with Coach Henry Lasch's team expected to improve on last spring's 5-8 record. Nine lettermen and many promising newcomers strengthen the Hornet cause. Veterans include pitchers Gordon Ferris, last year's top hurler, and Bill Fry, infielders Harley Pierce, Chandler Moulton and Bob Prudon, and outfielders Alvin lDougl Bourgeois, Edward Glaser and Eugene Koehlinger. Newcomers Kenneth Mosier, James Stefoff, Jack Wendt, Stanley Pavlic and Darol Topp are highly-regarded. Of their first seven league games, the Hornets won three, defeating Adrian, 'IO-7, Hope, 2-'ly and Hillsdale's defending champions, 5-4. Losses were absorbed from Albion, 'l-9, Alma, 3-5 and 2-6, and Adrian, 3-ll. Outside the conference the baseballers dropped a 13-7 decision to Fort Custer, and lost to Central Michi- gan, 2-3, in their first nine games. Ferris, Stefott and Topp are the team's most effective pitchers, while Glaser is the top batter.
