Be- sides this honor the publication won first, second and third place awards for best make- up, best pictures, and best sports and feature stories respectively at the Annual SCOOP Conference this year. Their assignments introduced the students to many experiences. Some of the assignments included interviews with the DPl's new su' 'perintendent Mr. YValter Gordon, Associated Press foreign correspondent Roy Iissoyan, Ad- .-.N 'V'- 4 2 -.f,,,, Lillian Shimada Clinton Perry Bus. illariager' Photogrriplzer vertiser Editor-emeritus Roy Coll and teen- age idol Tommy Sands. The tour of the Rus- sian ship XVityaz was a unique experience for the reporters who managed an interview with the Soviet citizens. Stall' members kept late hours in order to meet deadlines. They wrote stories, typed them, retyped them and pasted up the arti- cles on the master dummy. For their hard work in producing our first class Bulldog, the journalism students, who worked under Advisor Mr. Fumiko I,ope1, deserve all honors and credits. IT HAPPENED THIS WAY. Another page of the annual is checked off as the section editors sigh with relief. The final check followed the completion of the enormous bulk of work that confronted the staff members. In the beginning of the year, the class toured the Hawaiian Farmer to gain informa- tion for a possible nautical theme. They viewed Hlms, heard speakers on annual production, and attended regular ALOHA meetings. This all added to the fun and joy of producing a book of memories for the student body.
