Sophomore English teacher, Miss Betty Itakura, gives aid to student Salvador Gonsalves. We ommuniwzte Ejjfectivebf All Bulldogs must complete three years of English to graduate. The English classes aim to develop skills in speaking, writing, reading and interpreting the English language besides pro- moting appreciation for literature and to en- courage reading for pleasure. Before graduation, Kaimuki students read the great treasures of literature from Beowulf to G. B. Shaw. And what fun they had with Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and Shakespeare. Many of the more ambitious English students entered essay and oratorical contests and about a hundred students participated in the Speech Festival held on the University of Hawaii cam- pus. At this rate, Pidgin English will soon have to be learned as a foreign language.
