GRID REVIEW TEAM STANDINGS The upstart Kaimuki Bulldogs under new Coach Herbert Imanaka ended the 1958 Hono- lulu Interscholastic League gridiron season in a three-way tie for third place with McKinley and St. Louis. Early in the season, the city's sports dopesters unanimously placed Kaimuki in the cellar posi- tion but after dropping their opening game to Punahou, I4-19, the Bulldogs suddenly un- leashed a stunning drive and speed to upset the favored Farrington, Iolani, and St. Louis teams in their next three games. The Bulldogs were checked by the League Champs, the Kam Warriors, 0-40, but defeated Roosevelt 14-12. Kaimuki lost to the McKinley Tigers, 12-22, in the final game of the season. The Bulldogs won the draw for a Turkey Day berth and played against the Tigers in the dou- ble-header for the first time since 1953. Until the Kam game, the Bulldogs were in the running for the top pennant in the Inter- scholastic League. Kaimuki's Bulldogs attempted the most passes, 145, and completed the most, 52, and had 790 yards in the League. The Bulldogs came mighty close to winning. TEAMS Kamehameha Iolani ..,,. Kaimuki .... Albert Minn Athletic Director SENIOR FODTBALL We Got the Coach Kaimuki added two new sports to its athletic program this year . . . tennis and swimming. An active intramural ' sports program encouraged more Bulldogs, both boys and girls, to participate in sports activities. A track field was laid and our football team came close to winning the top pennant in the Honolulu Interscholarstic League. The man responsible for administering the athletic program at Kaimuki is Mr. Albert Minn. We thank him for his interest and inspiration. His pep talks at the rallies did much toward building up team morale and school spirit. And a Zlihglaqf 'Good Team! QW-Us Herbert Imanaka Head Coach New head coach Herbert Imanaka set out and accomplished the great task of developing a good football team. Being a new coach, he had to overcome many difficulties that all new coaches have to cope with such as developing his own plays. The proof of his success is found in the team standings in which Kaimuki tied for third place. 120 Edward Neves Ass't Coach Assisting Coach Imanaka and also coaching the Junior Varsity this year was Edward Brno Neves. He was there at every game, boosting the team from the sidelines. As the new Junior Var sity Coach, he also developed a good team that wound up tied for fourth place.

Air Attack Stun! Gow KAIMUKI 14, PUNAHOU 19. The Bull- dogs dropped their first interscholastic game to a heavily favored Punahou, 19-14. Kaimuki after scoring the first touchdown was unable to hold their lead when Punahou scored three times in the second quarter. Kai- muki threatened Punahou's lead by scoring a second touchdown in the fourth quarter. Both teams had difficulty in working their offense effectively. As a result, Punahou net- ted only 78 yards rushing and Kaimuki a total of 92 yards rushing and passing. Rodney Morris Fullback Tackle Samson Rodrigues KAIMUKI 28, FARRINGTON 6. In their second game Kaimuki unleashed a deadly pro- style passing attack to trounce Farrington 28- 6. Kaimuki passed Farrington dizzy from the deep-T formation with Kiesel throwing three touchdown passes. With plenty of protection, Kiesel bided his time to enable his receivers to go downfield before throwing unerring passes. The Bulldogs scored twice in the second quarter and once in the third through the air. They added a final TD and a safety in the last quarter to triumph over Farrington. john Clifford Allen Aloy Halfback End I DONT SCARF.
