N NV .f NP' X gi? fe:-x 'g '5i,'777g 5 XXVI, Q - 'i fiiihx - 5.54 kiwi. ' F -Rfwygv i?Q-. I ., S K ' - I! uns F GIRLS' GAMES Gorin at Gorin .The K. H. S. basket ball girls started the season right last Friday, winning from Gorm 21-6. The teamwork this year is far superior to any that the girls have shown for a long time. Daggs and Hanan were shooting accurately and very few shots were missed. Aileen Ball was hitting the ball every time to Ruth Rauscher, who showed her speed at running center. Dot McKee and Franke Shepard were holding down the Gorin forward to a ve-ry few shots as one can see from the fact that only three field goals were made. Neva Atherton and Alice Kearns were substituted for Franke Shepard and Mabel Hanan in the fourth quarter and although the time was short, they showed up well. Lancaster Girls Victorious Over Kahoka The Lancaster girls defeated Kahoka girls in one of the fastest games ever played on the home court. Daggs and Hanan played a star game for the locals. 'Dhe Kahoka girls were leading at the end of the first half but were unable to keep it, the final score being 2-1-16 in favor of Lancaster. Lancaster There Un Wednesday, Oct. 11, the girls' basket ball team lost to Lancaster by the score of 16-17. The game was very rough and exceedingly fast. The Kahoka girls displayed some wonderful team work and accurate goal shooting. Although the Lancaster girls were much larger than the Kalroka girls, they failed to show up as well in team work. The weather was also very cold which in a way handicapped the girls as they drowe' to Lancas- ter in cars. arriving about twenty minutes before the game. The Kahoka girls have a splendid team this year, with Aileen Ball. jumping center: Ruth Rauscher, running center: Dorothy McKee, guard: Franke Shepard, guardg Neva Atherton, guardg Edna Daggs, forward: Alice Kearns, forward. and Mabel Hanan, for- ward. Mr. Hollar and Miss Rolle are giving all their spare time for the betterment of the team. Downing There The K. H. S. basket. ball girls were defeated by a very small margin at Downing. The game was close all the way through. At times K. H. S. would lead and then the Downing girls would show a spurt of speed and gain the lead. The team work of the K. ll. S. girls was one of the noticeable features of the game. Aileen tapped the hall to Ruth and from Ruth the ball went to Edna or Alice who, although they were closely guarded made good their field goal attempts. lt seemed inevitable that our girls would win but a turn of fate caused our luck to change in 'the last part of the last half and when the final whistle blew the score stood 25-18 in favor of Downing. Gorin at Kahoka The Iiahoka girl's basket ball team swamped the Gorin High School team in a clean fast and interesting game on the home court Friday, October 27. Although the score was rather one-sided, the game was interesting. The Kahoka girls had some splendid te-am work and certainly displayed some accurate goal shooting. The game ended with a 35-17 score in favor of Kahoka. ln the last. half Mr. Hollar made several substitutions in or- der to give everyone a chance. Wayland Kahoka defeated Wayland by a score 19-5. Granger There The girls were very unfortunate in being beaten by a score of 26 to 11, probably due to the fact that Granger had a regular Southpaw for a guard and a giant forward at the other end. The Kahoka girls played hard and did the best they could, and it is not much of a disgrace to be beaten by such a giant team as they were. Granger Here The glrls' game started and the score almost tied. Our voices on the side lines were exerted to their fullest capacity. Team work was played by our forwards better than

After that. the scoring continued in fast order. The Donnellson girls sueeeeded in making several baskets, but the ball was in Kahoka's possession most of the time. It can be said to the eredit. of the girls, that no 0119 starred. Good tear' work was the feature of the game. Fl'lIlIl Shepard to McKee. from McKee to Rauscher, irom Ruth to Ball, and from Ball to Edna, in short, snappy passes, the ball went up the eourt. lf Edna was covered, she passed to Mabel and the basket was made or viee versa, team work predo'minating always over individuality. This is the third straight winning game for the girls. Donnellson Girls Whip K. H. S. O11 the same night, Mareh 7. the K. H. girls went down in defeat. An entirely new game was played in whieh five players we1'e used and boys' 1'ules prevailed. The Donnell- son girls were familiar with this style of play and as K. H. S. was not it proved an easy victory for tl1e1n. However, it may be said to the credit of the girls that they never gave up until the final whistle blew. Nevertheless, the girls are not boys. Kayhoka Girls Play La. Plata The girls' basket ball team agai11 showed their ability when they defeated the fast LaI'lata team on the home floor Friday night by the close seore of 151-20. Kahoka took the lead in the opening half when the sturdy little Daggs sc-ored from the free goal line. Mereer. star forward for Lalllata, put l1er team in the lead a few min- utes later when she seored from the field. Daggs and Hanan eaeb got another free goal but Mercer scored two more fieldbaskets before the half ended. This put the visitors three points ahead at the end of the half. The tremendous applause and encouragement from the spectators during the game and between halves sent the girls baek with their fighting blood up. McKee and Shepard played a fighting gaxne at guard while Ilauseher and Ball at center and Daggs and Hanan at forward proved disastrous for the visitors. Daggs started the seoriug the set-ond half when she sank one from the side line. Hanan played a star game, fighting from start to finish. BOYS' GAMES Gorin at Gorin Kahoka, 43. Gorin, 19. Kahoka High School won its first game of the outdool' season from Gorin High Sehool last Friday. Septemberr 22, by a fair margin. However. the game was at no time a walk-away for Kahoka. Gorin played hard till the end and made Kahofka earn every score. Bennett. Woodruff and Yandolah played a good game on offense and missed but few ehanees to sc-ore. Blum and Stump worked well together, being given good support by their team mates. They did some fine- guarding and gave Gorin but few open shots for the basket. On the whole the team worked well together. They deserve much credit for the clean game they played. Mc-Clues substituted for Bennett in the fourth quarter. laneastcr at Kahnka Kahoka lost t.o Lancaster Friday, September 29. Lancaster at Lancaster Un Friday, Oetober 11, the K. H. S. basket ball team lost to Lam-aster in a very fast and interesting game at Lancaster. The Kahoka boys were outelassed in weight but made up for this handicap in team wo1'k and goal shooting. The last ten minutes of the game were very close and fast. The sc-ore was either tied or not more than one point in different-e. XVith half a minute to play and Kahoka leading the Lancaster boys scored a field goal winning the game. Downing at Downing The boys' game at Downing, October 20, started with several fast goals by XVoodruff and Vandolah before Downing could get into ac-tion. Downing, seemingly slow, obtained only one point during the first half. By playing
