4 Theme BEGINNING. .it was a time of- The first year of school at Serra was a memorable one for all involved. Although one can not help but be fearful when encountering a new environment like high school, the older students and faculty of Serra helped express a need to put your fears aside and be a part of the surging lifeforce which was, Serra. We always talk of all the good and positive things of being at a new school. To be perfectly honest, all did not go as planned. Some examples of this would be like the Media Center. Al- though it was the largest in San Diego it did not open until the end of the first semester. If Murphy's Law, of what can go wrong will go wrong, can be applied to one particular part of Serra, it would have to be the air conditioning system. There were experiences when it did work and a teacher couldn't talk over it. Then there were the times when it didn't work at all. This could be no better explained than by Mr. Lyle Stone. When Serra was first opened the gigantic choirs of Serra were in the 200 building, which had not yet had it's air conditioning put in. The room which was small to begin with and Mr. Stone's 80+ students made the heat unbearable. So the choir on many occasions could be seen in the halls of the 200 build- ing singing to the delight of all. It is memories and moments like that that get Serra where it is today.
