Serra'sNewsmagazi ne Ranked Second Serrandipity staff had a very successful year. The hard work and dedication of the staff showed in the very interesting and informative nevvsmagazine issues they distributed. Unfortunately only three issues were published but next year Serra can expect more. However something should be said about quantity vs. quality. Although only three issues were published Serrandipity recieved a 2nd in San Diego County. Editor Jerri Harwell placed 15th out of 68 competitors. The staff also attended a conference in San Francisco. During the conference, staff members learned how to enhance layouts and better writing techniques. .l 'lun-...,. 1. During the summertime the cheerleaders went to camp to perfect their skills, leam new dance and cheer routines and crowd control techniques. At the end of the week Serra's Squad was rewarded two coveted superior ribbons. There is a lot more to spirit leading than most people realize. It's not just cheering at games, posters have to be painted, rallies executed, fund raising, care packages and other school oriented projects. More important, cheerleading is team work. The season wasn't all work, the girls had a lot of spirited fun at the games. Highlights were 1 Q tryouts, convincing ten football players to dress up as cheerleaders, kidnapping the entire team and taking them for breakfast at McDonalds, losing the Newcoming to Serra's fiercest rival, Mira Mesa, and our b-ball victories althm will few. The girls were often overheard saying such favorite expressions as, I'm happy! , Molvina Carter, I gotta go to a wedding! , Lydia Cash' Get down, one more time! , Vee-Gee Cloud, lVligrane!,', Tamera Copeland, How are the kids? , Sandra Hall, Ooh baby! , Lynn Poland, Having to say good-by , Sue Poulin, Fm on the bottom again! , Sandi Valencia, Left or right?
