Q's First Season A Frontier First athletic season was not an immensly successful one, but one that gave teams a chance to get organized. A lot of students went out for sports, some unexperienced, others previous athletes from other schools. All wanted their teams to do the very best in the struggle for the Western League Titles. It was not an uncommon sight to see teams practicing on weekends or even during holidays. These athletes wanted to better themsleves as they attempted to win. Advantages of being a new school were such items as new uniforms and equipment. However, disadvantages were present also. In the beginning of the fall season both the volleyball and badminton teams had to play and practice in Balboa Park until the completion of the gym. The swim team also encountered problems as they searched for a pool. One was found at Copley YMCA. Athletic teams took all problems in stride and continued to do their bestg co-operation and team work played an important part. The first season was one that was mainly a leaming experience as athletes learned about the thrill of victory and agony of defeat. Football Kicked f 7-1 Season Although the whole Conquistador football team did an outstanding job, top performers were Joey Brooks, Michael Grigsby, and Tom I-lairre, Max Lambky, Ron Lord, Danny Lowery and Tom VanBebber.
