Dedication Declared The dedication of Serra High was held in the gym on April 27 at 7:30 p.m. and was composed of speeches and presentations by prominent people. The ceremony began with an Invocation by Reverand Brent Eagen of Mission San Diego de Alcala and our principal, Mrs. LaRene Sullivan who gave the welcoming speech. Dr. Thomas Goodman, was the first s eaker and said a few words of greeting. Dr. Philip I-Ialfaker of the Board of Education presented the school to the community, Lynden Rader, President of the Parent Teacher Student Association accepted for the community, followed by Rick Goulet, who accepted for the Student Body. In his acceptance speech, Rick re-emphasized the feelings of many when he talked about students finally being united in a community school of their own. Our alma mater entitled Oh Serra was presented by the Choral Department, and after the conclusion of the ceremony, guests had the opportunity to tour Serra at the Open House which followed. 38 Student Life iii,

Concert was Immensely Sucessful Serra's first winter concert was held on February 2 and 3, Wednesday and Thursday. Perfom1ing was the Advanced Orchestra, Advanced Band and the Inter- mediate Band. There were 110 performers and 300 people attended the concert. The bands are directed by Mr. Lorin Getline and he described the concert as uimmensly successfulw. if ' A - .. - - I H: 63 1. The Intermediate Band performs first at the Winter Concert in February. 2. After the Winter Concert, students re- trieve their instruments and go offstage. WC- 3. The Intermediate Band played 'Yesterday When I Was Young', 'Ilsipio March', 'Getting It Together', and 'Gonna Build A Mountain'. 4. Band Director Mr. Lorin Getline gives signal to start the band.
