From Sick-Out To Strike Q H, A -gl , QWW' P747 W rjfff' 0 0 fl l QJ' r' lsrtr f Q vtli 5 No Contract No Work Thursday, June 2nd, Serra High teacher's par- ticipated in one of the district wide sick-outs. The reason for the one day sick out was to force the Board of Education to listen to the teachers' views. The sick- out was basically unsuccessful but it did prove the unity and strength of the teachers. After the sick-out there was a noticeably different teaching staff, ad- ministration, and student body. The closeness of the teachers was brought into the eventual strike which began on June 6th and lasted until June 9th, During the strike substitute teachers, housewives, T.A.'s, and older students were the teachers for as some called them - babysittersl. Although some were competent teachers, most were unskilled so little was leamed during the strike. 's Strike 1 23
