classes ■OIRI The role of teacher and student in the classroom has changed a considerable degree since the 60 ' s. The classes here at Serra are a model of the prevalent attitude of close teacher-student inter-reaction. Each probes the other in search of answers. Most restrictions have been lifted as to what you can and cannot say, giving the statement seek and you shall find credibility at J.S.H. Everything from sex in marriage to the pro ' s and con ' s of communism is discussed freely and openly in an aca- demic atmosphere. The courses, or learning experiences, are diverse but yet focus on the necessary skills needed in a fast paced society. Everything from the delicate strokes of a brush on a time consuming work of art to the precise incisions on the abdomen of a fetal pig can be found behind the wooden doors of Serra High. 24

Freshman Welcome Week Seniors Welcome Freshmen To Serra Family Tip it! was the catch phrase during a very successful Fresh- man Welcome Week. Seniors and freshmen alike were eager to engage in the many activi- ties planned by the student council. The first activity was The Auction where seniors bought freshmen just as trad- ers bought slaves many years ago. The frosh, a very cooper- ative group, seemed to be in awe as they watched the sen- iors roll out the green bills for their prospective fresh meat. Later in the week, as the activities went on, contests which pitted frosh against frosh clearly exhibited the good spirit among all. Thus the week was a big success as both winners and losers came through with the Good Ole Serra Pride. 26
