They realize that not only the religious instruc- tion and education of the student is considered by the fac- ulty but the development of his character. At Serra we have twelve Marianists and eight lay-teachers. They both subscribe to this idea and therefore do not refuse guidance and counsel to the student. As for their competence, the Marianists have devoted their lives for the purpose of in- structing and aiding youths to become better Catholic citi- zens. The lay-teachers share this purpose also and desire as the Marianists do to mold the students into mature adults who can meet their responsibilities and overcome their difficulties. To the student it means the achievement of twelve years of studying, doing homework, and inhabiting classrooms. It means what next? more schooling? a career? the armed forces? If he heeded the advice of his parents and teachers he would have most of his questions answer- ed. To the teacher it must mean a rewarding satisfaction, knowing that he helped the students achieve his educa- tion and mold his character. To the parent it must be a proud and momentous occasion. They must think of their graduations and how quickly time has passed . It means to the student a looking forward, to the parents a proud oc- casion and to the teacher a deep satisfaction. The freshmen having completed their first year of high schol and having tasted ot its responsibilities will be exe pected to show they are worthy of their advancement. They are not only expected to pass on the spirit they have acquired to the new Frosh but to increase and en! kindle their own. The sophomores gaining the title of upper-classmen also have gained a new responsibility. They will be expected to show by their example the con- duct required of the freshmen and sophomores. The Juniors now take on the important position of leaders of the school. They are the prime figures in the scl1ool's success. During the years of high school two moior decisions must be answered by the student: ill the choosing of his vocationg and Q2l the developing of his character and per- sonality. The greatest asset to the answering of these decisions is the counsel and guidance offered to him by his parents and teachers. SON'S DEVOTION , , .1- , fn , , ff .. The parents and teachers both realize this and know that one of the best ways to develop this in the student is to provide him o full activity program. The student whether he is participating or spectating can learn such virtues as loyalty, fair-play, and perseverance. These will all prove important attributes to the character of the stu- dent in later life. As long as activities promote such vital virutes and has such high ideals then there will always be a full activity program at Serra. SON'S DEVOTION .usual NMNWWNM .
