CLASS HISTORY Four long years haye passed sunce yye the class of 44 entered the portals of Junuata Jount They have been years of hard work and dusappountments but at the same tume years of happuness and success In September 1940 we began our career un J J 1-1 9 On that date 137 of us regustered as Freshmen We were green of course but not so green as some others whose entrance we have yyutnessed sunce that tume rl he most memorable eyent of our Freshmen year yyas the Armustuce Day Parade for whuch we desugned a Betsy Ross float and won first pruze Then came May Day J J H S sponsored a program un whuch members of our class partucupated ln the early fall of 1941 109 students enrolled as Sophomores At our first class meetung we chose maroon and whute as class colors Durung the first semester of thus year a new addutuon was buult to our hugh school Our prude un the enlarged buuldung and our unterest un all school events were completely oy erpoyy ered by the declaratuon of war on December 8th From then on every thung vye dud or planned was secondary to the preparatuon for war Even our rungs the receuvung of whuch us the bug event of the sophomore year took second place We had to step asude phulosophucally and permut materuals to go to essentual undustrues unstead of unessentual class rungs Therefore we had to yvaut untul after the school term for the rungs to be deluvered The wheels of tume revolved once more and we were Junuors Although yve lost eught of our members sunce the nrevuous year vye kept clumbung rung by rung the ladder of our ambutuons Our class was well represented un foot ball basketball and other actuve sports The majorutv of the hugh school band members consusted of boys and gurls from our class and honors un the fueld of agruculture were taken by several of the boys The last event of the Junuor year and the greatest un our estumatuon was the Prom The audutoruum was decorated as a magnuficent flower garden Shaded lughts soft strauns of musuc shaclovyy dancung ligures vusuons of developung love affaurs and laughter formed memorues of the lunuor Prom none of us yvull eyer forget After three years of hard work a remaunung 93 returned to Junuata lount term and durung the school year nune Senuor boys entered the Armed Forces The last tvyo months of our hugh school career were crowded wuth the usual preparatuons for graduatuon Our maun actuvuty was to present our class play Iemzor Mzss At thus tume our attentuon yy as also beung held by the basketball games yylauch proyed yery suceessful qey eral tests were taken by dufferent mem bers the Westunghouse Qcholarshup test for those students unterested un Chem ustry the Ayuatuon Cadet and V 12 tests for boys who yyushed to take soecual uzed traunung un the Army or Nayy 1-lonors yy ere heaped upon us One of our gurls yy as elaosen to represent our class un Ille D A R 1-lustory test One of our X oeatuonal boys receuyed an award for keepung one of the best farm record books un the state Fleyen of our members ffour gurls and seyen boysr were selected for the Natuonal 1-lonor Socuety XVuth all of these actuvutues and honors those last days yy ere yery busy ones for us all but yye shall neyer forget them for ut yy as the tume of reupung the haryest Once more yye experuenced the thrull of the Prom not as the hosts but as the guests Our year books for yy huch some of our members yy orked so hard came at last There was also the fun and entertaunment of class nught and the more seruous thoughts guven to us at the Baecalaureate program Funally ut came and too soon passed May 16 the date of our graduatuon lt yyas a solemn processuon that marched to the front of the audutoruum that nught Xlunds yy andered oyer the years behund and the years ahead Yet yye yvere ready to accept the challenge of the future because yye thought Our udeal yvhateyer ut may be lues further onyvard Gullett Y Y V . .
