Graham Dale Frerichs Robert Hansen SHOPS IS The situation at Highgate House was sufficiently confus with flighty erratic Yrs Highgate continually forget names and mistaking the identities of her daughter and her servants but it becomes a pandemonlum of rlb-cracking laughs when in her md scramble to keep from being outdone in her social set she decides to have her portrait painted and by an artist Tom Lawrence whom she had ordered from the house the week before while he was visiting her daughter Fancy -and only because of his choice of necktles The difficulties of these situations become mre and more complex as the play progresseminvolvlng a queer rmlady, 'Pocketitush from which Florence, the ua1d,is suffering: the timid love of Phillip, the butler, for her: the 'humn blood- hound' activities of Beagle Jones, the detective: the whirl- wind courtship of the cook by the ever-hungry. artist-housr painter, Lon Torence: the cook's extreme dislike of the mis chievous yard boy, Arthur-to mention a few of the situation which arise. until at the Joyful ending the audience will hold their sides with laughter whlle thay, too. shout 'Take It lasyl' 17 Tom Lawrence . i .....
