We were properly put in our place with our initiation assembly where you mighty say we sort of lost ojur shoes. We were reiuiflded of our place as underclassmen when we were presented with our official toilet seat from the Seniors.‘Our President Marilyn Thibodeau was on hand to accept it. Other officers that year included Dick Gobble-Vice-President, Marlyn Twitcliell- Secretary-Treasurer, Darwin Walters and Doug Pepl as Representatives. The highlight of the year L was hosting the S.E. Basketball Tournament at vdiich our Basketball team placed fourth, Drill ■- Tedm placed sfecdnd, and the Varsity Cheerleaders placed first. All Th all it was a very exciting year. Our fund raising project for the year was the slave auction. Our Junior year was a busy one, no longer were we the low people on the totem pole but safe and secure in Ute middle. We managed to get Mac away from the Seniors (much to their grief and re- turned him to the school for the first basketball assembly). Although we didn't manage to do extremley well during Spirit Week, we did win the Spirit Banner five consecutive times, which was more times than any other class. We also were the. proud hosts of S .E. Wrestling Tournament and S.E. Swim Meet. Our spirits were still high as we approached the musical, The Music Man , it was a huge success. We ended our year with a sigh at our own magical, mystical Junior Prom, Could it Be Magic . Our officers being as busy as the rest were, President Lori Larson, Vice- President Clyde Andrews, Secretary-Treasurer Debbie ReTnwand, Representatives Mike Zagars and Mike Scnmitz. ■ In our ftnal'year at J-D we entered with the same enthusiasm as we had as sophomores. Our class now numbers only 250 but very strong and united. Our class officers brought back many of our old traditions such as the bonfire and Snake Dance through much hard work. Our officers incHiWn President DnSyPeel, Vice-President Djc.k.Cauieroau Secretary-Treasurer Valerie Westcott, plus Representatives Richard WhiTehea’dandMark Smith. Once again we managed to be the proud bearers of Mac before the first pep assembly. During our Senior year we were the proud hosts of the S.E. This year the Totem Princesses were Bev Barger, Cathy Baxter, Lisa Gowdy, Mindy Merritt, and Lori Nottingham. The highlight of the evening for the crowd and the princesses was the crowning of the 1976-77 Totem Queen, Bev Barger. 52 One of last year's princesses, Leslie Burns, enjoys the dance. They provide services and receivecredit for their work. They answer phones, file, deliver mes- sages, and pick up attendance. They help stu- dents in math and science, P.E., and swimming. All in all, Student Aides perform a variety of tasks. 56 57 VARSITY CHEERLEADERS The Varsity Cheerleaders provided our school with plenty of pep and spirit at the games and pep assemblies. They traveled with the basket- ball team, and cheered at many sports events. This year's squad consisted of two Seniors and three Juniors. Marianne Kelly and Shelly Swanke led the Class of '77. Completing the group were Susie Meketa, Mindy Merritt, and Lori Nottingham, from the Class of '78. The girls practiced and performed under the direction of Mrs. McHugh, advisor, and manager, Terri Robbins. 58 DRILL TEAM The drill team performed a variety of marches this year. Among their diverse collection were a silent march, a dance with hats and canes, and a special Christmas march in the dark with pen lights. Because of limited funds the drill team sent only two girls to Santa Monica, California who observed but did not enter the National Drill Team Compe- tition. Drill Team drummer. Second semester Blyth Hopkins stepped in as Co-Editor with Ron. The editors kept the class in line, and the advisor tried to keep the editors in line. The J-Bird came out on an average of every three weeks. Sometimes, it was more or a very few times, less. No matter how much time, the J-Bird was still well-received by students, teachers, and alumni. J-Bird Class in its entirety: Left to Right; Dan Mayer, Clay Good, Sherry Simpson, Treacy Withers, Liza Diebels, Ken Koelsch, Clyde Andrews, Ray Tindell, Jody eg Learner, Ron Flint, Teddy Quinn, Debbie Reinwand, Mark Prussing, Valerie Westcot, Ann Bradley, Betty Lyon, and Sharon Crowell. 62 Dan Mayer and Ray Tindell discuss assignments STUDENT COUNCIL 64 SENIOR CLASS PRESENTS This year instead of the traditional Senior Class Play, three one-act comedies were presented. They were: HAPPINESS IS, ANTIC SPRING, and GHOST OF A SHOW. They were directed by Earline V. Cook, with assistance from Student Director Sidni Wagenius, and Technical Director, Ken Koelsch. The play was well received and the actors did a commendable job. The play ran three nights, Nov. 18, 19, and 20. This year's innovative idea may have started a new tradition for the Senior Class Play. Cast of ANTIC SPRING: Tami Personett-Gwendolyn, Jeff Brooks-Sam, Melanie Millette-Ginger, Larry Kent-Robert, Dan Mayer-Elbert, Linnea Mahnke-Blossom. Each class tries to outyell the other classes to win the Spirit Banner. They are led by the cheerleaders from their classes. The Pep Band plays some funky tunes which adds to the excite- ment. C .D .A .A. often puts on a skit to help boost the ever- Eresent spirit. The pep assem- lies are held for the various sports activities such as, boys' and girls' basketball, drill team, swim team, cross-country, girls' volleyball, track, skiing and wrestling. Juneau is even nicer when it's covered with snow. I'm already excited to go skiing. Beside there is nothing special going on. I still like the school, my host family and I understand us very good and in general the people are very friendly and open. Now it's almost naturally for me to speak English all the time and I have a hard time to live somewhere else than Juneau. Gruss Ursula There are many differences in the custome of my home country, Iceland, and the United States. I like some of the customs of the U .S . far better. Here more people attend church regularly. The schools offer a wide assortment of courses, as well as extra-curricular activities such as sports, clubs, and class projects. In my country most people eat more often during the day. The young people have more freedom. Despite the missed deadlines, we got the book in two weeks early, much to our amazement! No matter how it turns out, we'll know it's great, especially after all the hours of tears and screaming, missed meals, and missed classes. KAREN AND SHELLY - Sorry about the big disappointment; we cried too! You two were great! You guys were the only ones who met your first deadline, besides us of course. CAROLYN AND CATHY - Now you know how it feels to be REALLY busy! We know your mo- tive behind asking for sports; you thought you would get to travel with the team! TERRI AND THERESE - If there was a lost negative or print, you can be sure it belonged to your section! Oh, well, that's entertainment! DEBBIE AND SANDY - Surely if there had been a section on fashion, you would have enjoyed the class a lot more! Anyway, we had doughnuts enough to satisfy you! LISA AND SANDY - What a year! You two hold a record for doing the most work in the least amount of time! A year's worth of Organizations in one quarter. How did you do it? (With a little help from your friends!) MIKE AND MIKE - Here's to the two best ad men (once upon a time, there were two ad WOMEN who were the bestest!) in J-D Hi. We don't know what we'd have done without you! TAMMY AND ROXY - You two started out slow, but finished with a bang. Thanks! MARY AND SUE - The two who literally marched their way through deadlines! It is easy to see how you two survived, both you and Yearbook are INSANE! PHOTOGRAPHERS - Peace!? What lucky men; now you know what it feels like to be sought after! You also know what it feels like to be bothered, harassed, and given a generally hard time. Sorry, and believe us, we couldn't have done it without you. MARK BABY! - You have accomplished the impossible; you've put up with us for two years without going TOTALLY insane. (Although you do seem to be seen less and less frequently at school.) MRS. NASH - How was it for a first year? (And how many bottles of Excedrin did you go through?) Try to get some rest this summer so you can be prepared for next year! ha! ha! We can't thank you enough; we could never have seen our way through this without you!
