WAIER Philosophy of the Board of Education The Board of Education of Joint Dis- trict 11 is responsible for the goals and philosophies of the school. Our rep- resentative Board has established many specific goals for the district based on a philosophy and desire to provide the best possible educational opportunities for all the students it serves. One high priority concern is to balance the educa- tional program in order to insure maxi- mum development of individual talents and abilities. We hope that a measure of your fu- ture success will have been in part pro- vided by the many days shared with us in the district's schools. We wish you good fortune in the years that lie ahead. Student Body The nourishment for the growth of individuality abides in the soil of a wholesome climate. The essentials of an intellectual climate are stimulation and thrust; responsibility of freedom, the support of love; respect and accept ance; a balanced pattern of success experiences; time to explore, to con- template, and to develop; a chance to examine human values; and opportuni- ties for a steady deepening of self insight. Iam confident that the student body of Juneau High School has accumulated a reserve of experience that has given them the strength and faith to assume new ventures with a concept of them- selves that nerves them to dare. OUR PRINCIPAL: MR. DAHL A Message to the Seniors The end of the 1968-69 school year is certainly a significant event in your lives. You will be going from the shel- tered life of a student to the highly com - petitive, complex, and uncertain world outside. It is our hope that your exper- iences at Juneau High School will make you better equipped to meet the many challenges that you will face in our so- ciety. As you seek your place in this so- ciety of ours, remember that success comes to those energetic enough to work for it, patient enough to wait for it. brave enough to seize it, and strong enough to hold it. 5 MR. The Return” of the Freshmen-Sophomore party was held on February 6. For those who attended, this was a very interesting evening. The bonfire for homecoming was the best yet, and the freshmen were responsi- ble. Now only to be sophomores.......... 41 Sophomores FRONT ROW: J. Haeni, J. Bronner, F. Fredrick, D. The Sophomores were also busy decorating the gym for the Homecoming dance, which was decorated to the theme of Cinderella. Those juniors who participated in the New York-Washington trip have many mem- ories of their exciting flight. The juniors were very proud of their new, uniquely shaped class rings. Their magazine campaign, which consumed much time and energy, was a hugh success. The Junior Prom, the culmination of the junior year, was certainly worth all the energy expounded. Indeed, 1968-69 was a school year to remember! Take him down Rick, Mark's not interested. 45 PRESIDENT: Alan Zuberbuehler VICE-PRESIDENT: Steve Nehls 46 TREASURER: John Weiblow 47 CHRISTINE ABEL Chris Librarians 1,2; Arts G Crafts 1,4; F. T. Although he has left us, his memory lingers in our hearts. 60 Junior-Senior Prom ROYAL COURT: C. Panetti, M. Masske, P. Buhr, R. Uttech, Queen N. Nehls, King T. Cose; Crown Bearers L. Cahlman, G. Walsh; G. Rediske, R. Couperus, J. Abel, M. Stock. Enchantment filled the eyes and hearts of the members on the Court of Honor as King Terry Cose crowned Queen Nadine Nehls. Jimmy Hartwig and his orchestra provided the music for the Polynesian setting on May 10. 1969. For all who attended . it proved to be Some Enchanted Evening. Queen Nadine Nehls, King Terry Cose, Crownbearers, Lauire Cahlman and Gary Walsh. Baseball FRONT ROW: J. Burdick, S. Kranz, S. Lehmann, G. Matuszeski, C. Selchert, W. Pasbrig, R. Rhode. BACK ROW: D. Schoppe, S. Wolfram, P. Brigowatz, J. Duffy, H. Berger, R. Couperus, E. Owens, Mr. Wieneke, Coach. The baseball team took their knocks as well as giving some this past year. The Chiefs won two games while losing seven. Many boys will be back to give a strong nucleus for the next season. Golf A record doesn't tell everything in the world of golf, although two matches were won by the Chiefs. Searching for lost balls and losing balls in the water holes and blasting out of sand traps proved to be costly as well as fun. Mr. Disbrow, Coach; T. Langan, G. Soldner, M. Scherer, R. Nehls, B. Fashun, B. Strous, G. Pederson, Mr. Lindberg, Coach. Track “ Brigadoon” The track team out did themselves by placing first last year in the Eastern Section of the Madison Suburban Conference. Two school records were broken by Chuck Schultz in the pole vault and Joe Bronner in discus. Being many of the boys were under- classmen, future prospects look good. The sleeping village of Brigadoon came alive with the cast of Juneau's first musical on April 18. 19, 1969. Under the direction of L. Edming and musical director F. Terranova. the cast and the orchestra made it a production for all students to remem- ber. FRONT ROW: R. Duessler, Mgr. ; E. Scott, B. Dahl, D. Buschkopf, B. Buhr, S. Kasper, R. Schmitt, B. Scott, C.
