TRACK GIRLS ARE WINNERS During the second season of girl's track, the team members proved their ability at the district track meet. Bambi Mims placed 1st in broad jump, 2nd in 220 yd. dash, 2nd in 80 yd. hurdles and 3rd in triple jump. Doxie Dutton won 2nd in 880 yd. run, 4th in high jump and 4th in 80 yd. hurdles. Other girls placing were Carlene Low 4th in discus, Debbie Mahler 4th in high jump, Shirley Bierschwale 5th in 440 yd. dash. Linda Rendon 5th in 100 yd. dash and Kay Murr 6th in 80 yd. hurdles. In the 880 yd. relay Bambi, Doxie, Linda and Kay won 2nd place. Those placing 3rd in the mile relay were Debbie, Shirley, Kay and Mary. The 6th place winners in the 440 relay were Debbie, Mary. Renee Schulze, junior, has represented Junction High School for three years in girls singles division. 67 BOYS SINGLES SWING INTO ACTION Senior David Loeffler played tennis on the boys singles team this past season. He has represented Junction High School tennis for two years. Duane Dunk, sophomore, has shown his ability on the boys singles tennis team for two years. Duane placed fourth in the District Tennis Meet in Mason. 68 GIRL'S DOUBLES Jane Schwartz, junior, and Joyce Modgling, senior, captured second place for girls doubles during the Junction tournament but were defeated in district. Kayla Kothmann, junior, and Dee Dee Bowers, senior, won a first during the Junction tournament, but were also defeated at district. BOY'S DOUBLES PLAYING ON THE 1973 TENNIS TEAM Sophomores Leonard Sepeda and Maurilio Martinez played on the boy’s doubles tennis team. This is the second year for both to represent Junction in tennis. The other boy’s doubles tennis team was Kaddo Koth- mann, sophomore and Kenny Smart, freshman. The Golden Eagle Band, under the leadership of the band director, Wayne Coleman, had a busy year. In addi- tion to performing at the half-time acitivities during football games, the Golden Eagle Band performed other special school functions. The JHS Homecoming, Bonfire, Sweetheart night and graduation are just a few of the many functions. During the football season the band sponsors a pancake supper to raise money for their organi- zation. A spring concert is held annually by the band to promote public interest. The JHS Band has represented Junction in the San Angelo and San Antonio Parades. 77 Debra Dunk, Capt. 1 year THE FORCEFUL LEADERS OF THE DRILL TEAM Jane Schwartz, Capt. 2 years To prepare for the 1972 football sea- son, the Drill Leaders attended Drill Team School at Texas A M Univer- sity during the summer. Senior leader Debra Dunk attended the Baylor Uni- versity Drill Team also. Funds for 1972 projects and props were brought in due to the efforts of the Drill Team leaders. A three day rummage sale produced a big gain for the Golden Eagle Brigade. Profits from the rummage sale were used to pur- chase props and materials to be used in making props. The Drill Team leaders boosted Eagle spirit during the entire football season by teaching and leading dances.
