Foreword Molly Murr—Nancy McMillan—Martha Ferguson We, the members of the annual staff, publish the 1970 Golden Eagle to relate, in picture and copy form, some of the outstanding and interesting events of the school year. JHS cannot be described in a single word except—VARIETY. Both the big and little fit together to fill the year. New and old faces, locker doors, teachers, homework, western dances, mid-term tests, ban- quets, athletic tournaments, the Student Council, English novels, hayrides and picnics, old jokes, tears, chalky blackboards, organization meetings, and the flagpole are among the traditional things that rep- resent our school. Students laugh through the easy times and struggle through the hard times. There was the pain of defeat and the thrill of victory. In all the phases of the scholastic and extracurricular activities, this is our school. Sincerely, Molly Murr, Editor Nancy McMillan, Associate Ed. Martha Ferguson, Business Mgr.

Dedication Billy Ed Allen Maurice Nethery Billy Ed Allen, immediate past president of the Board, has served the school district 10 years and will make it 11 this next year. He was presi- dent of the Board from 1966 through 1969. Allen also is a rancher and participates in many civic activities. His wife, Edith, and their three sons allow him some time to participate in his favorite hobby, “just sittin’ and whittling.” Maurice Nethery, newly elected president of the Junction Independent School Board, has served on the board 15 years and has held the presidency at different intervals six years prior to this last spring election. Nethery, sometimes called an “airplane enthusiast”, recently was promoted to Lt. Col. in the Army Air Force Re- serves. Besides ranching for a living, helping his wife, Betty, rear three young sons, Nethery logs a lot of plane miles at the Junction Airport, “just to keep in practice.”
