Gladys Darlene Draper Sandra May Drew Vincent Paul Driski john Leslie Duncan j Joseph L. Dupre Judith Durbon A s Freshmen we were initiated by the mighty Seniors of 1953. At this time we were thought to be the lowest form of life and the mighty Sen- iors reigned supreme. You could never recog- nize us in the state we were in. We were simply covered with lipstick, and what a ffgooie mess was in our hair. Not only that, but we had to wear clothes wrong side out and backwards. The best part of the ceremony was cleaning the 1 and the weiner roast thatfollowed. We had loads of fun on that day! Most of us studiedg some even made the honor roll. Many of us placedfor state scholar- ship awards. Using oiu' dramatic and musical talents, we put on the junior High Operetta, Belle of Bagdad, under the direction of Philip Crow. Those who had leads were Iudy Stark, Rodney Craft, Don Hampton, Nyla Neilson,Cyn- thia Ziegler, and jane Carr. Miss Helen Hauge helped us produce the play, G ood Night Caro- line, with the cast including Leah Palm, Robert Iott, Nyla Nielsen and Rodney Craft. As Freshmen a number of us held offices in junior High organizations. Our class president was David Junghans. Don Hampton was Vice president, Cynthia Ziegler was secretary, and the treasurer was Rodney Craft. The next year our confidence grew and we gained more social recognition in the school activities. Our boys started in Senior High sports and began their way to stardom. A few of these were Gordon MacLaird,Art McKenna, RussellGaston, EarlHaytor, Ron Henry, Harold Heaberlin, Larry Dowdell, Vincent Driski, jack Murrison, jack Hall, Allen Irwin, and joe Hudley. In the Senior High operetta, The Mikado, Rodney Craft played the part of the Mikado. The play we produced, The Happy Journey, was under the directicn of David Cropp. The cast included Harold Heaberlin, Sally Shellhaas, Richard Crocker, Bev Wells, Bob Patterson, and Caroline Smith. In the spring of that year we were accorded the privilege of taking down the decorations and cleaning the gym after the Junior -Senior Prom. For our leaders, we chose Harold Heaberlin as presidentg Russell Gaston, vice president, Carol Karns, secretaryg and Judy Olson as treasurer. During the summer we rested and decided what we were going to do the next year. Why, we had only two years left--such a short time to accomplish all we had to do! -15-
