- . - -, M Powwowwfe-. -ff .12 fx .fs JUNCTION CITY HIGH SCHOOL The first public school in Junction City was opened in 1860. At first school was held in a private home and later in various buildings of the town. These first schools were maintained on a subscription basis ln 1866 bonds were voted to erect a school building in the South part of town. This building was used for about seven years and later the present Lincoln school was erected with the stones of the first school building. ln 1823 the McKinley school was built and Nlr. H. C. Speer was chosen as Superintendent. As no high school work had hitherto been offered. Mr Speer organized a three year high school course. The first class was graduated in 1876 Afour year high school course was installed in 1894 under the direction of Mr. G. W. Kendrick. The McKinley building was used for high school purposes from 1873 to 1904 when the present high school building was erected and ready to be occupied. The school population steadily grew and it became necessary to constructanew building Therefore in 1919 the Junior High School was established. This course includes the Freshman class of the four year high school course It is to the early edu :ators with their many hardships and ceaseless efforts that we owe the establishing and sustaining of our schools. Through the interest and unseltish work of later superintendents and principals. .l. C. H. S. has grown, We have increased in knowledge and in members until our present building is decidely inadequate for the needs of a modern high school course We sincerely hope that in the near future Junction City may boast of a fine new Senior High School Building, giving the young people every possible opportunity and advantage for a greater development. .1, X as -24. .1 l 13
