My Dear Girls, The Spotlight of Tomorrow will be turned, inevitably, upon your gener- ation because the girls and boys of your age are the ones who will have to make the major contributions in talent, in hard work, and in sacrifice, to build the better world for which your brothers and sweethearts on the military front, and you on the home front, are now fighting. I think that the greatest task that faces you is the acceptance of your obligation to be well informed on the problems of reconstruction following the war, which we know now will tax the best efforts of the most able and conscientious statesmeng to make that information function in developing your judgment, your power of discrimination and your ability to evaluate events and human beings, to help through constructive organizations- political, social and economic-to mould a public opinion that will make cooperation with other nations the cornerstone of national policy, that will test all proposed solutions of world problems by the standards of justice and humanity, recognizing that such standards, applied to international affairs, will ultimately serve also desirable national interests, community interests and personal interests. Laughter and good times, creative work and play, friendship and affec- tion, spiritual growth and intellectual development, are your American heritage. May you have them in full measure. May you do your part to extend them to the children of all nations. Sincerely yours,

The First Four Years The first four years are the hardest! Four years ago, we arrived breathless with a minimum knowledge of the uThree Us -Cosmetics, Clothing, and Cutting. However, after a strenuous curriculum, we have mastered these rudiments of education only to be confronted with a weekly schedule of some consequence, no steam-Heatless Mondayg no steak- Meatless Tuesdayg no shoes--Feetless Wednesdayg no bus-Seatless Thurs- day, no homework-Featless Friday. Heatless Monday, the weak end of the week-end, gives the seniors the long-awaited opportunity to saunter boldly into the North School Office with coats on. This is done notwithstanding the Persevering Pioneer and the Keeper of the Pass, who sit shivering f'neath the icy blasts of the Arctic Officej. Meatless Tuesday presents a problem of another kind. Biological dis- cussion of animal structure must be momentarily relinquished in behalf of binary fishin,. The cafeteria has a plentiful supply of frozen fish left over from the previous day. The Traffic Squad, ever resourceful, has evolved a revolutionary system whereby marshals examine lunches as they accom- panv the girls through the doors. Difficulties have been encountered and the Black Market is quite profitable, the most illicit agent of which may be reached by tacking a note to the waste paper basket under Mrs. Denson's desk. The password is c'Mary is a grand old name. Feetless Wednesday has given vent to new styles. One girl appeared with a Richman News strapped to one foot, and a Bluebird to the other to avoid partialitv. Seatless Thursday also offers complications to the daily routine. Now, even the girls don,t get seats. Staunchly they stand beside their teachers, who are quite used to standing up against the pungent odor of gasoline and gossip. Featless Friday applies only to lack of scholastic achievement and not to the dizzy developments which follow on this day. On this day, home- work is neglected because the best students of all sleep in the study hall. Yes, the .... During the college prom season many seniors find it opportune to make dental appointments early in the afternoon. At three o'clock, only a few remain to check in.
