When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, my heart will not fear, though war arise against me, in spite of this I shall be confident. One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to meditate in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle, in the secret place of His tent He will hide me, He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy, I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord. Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice, and be gracious to me and answer me. When Thou didst say, 'Seek my face, my heart said to Thee, 'IThy face, O Lord, I shall seek. Even though students measure a successful year by its accomplishments, there really is a lot more that happens behind the scenes. The professional and business-like attitude of this year's leadership made Stu- dent Senate unique. A way that this is recognized is by the com- pletion of the new Student Senate Constitu- tion. Not only does it address the necessary changes but it also communicates the pur- pose of Judson College Senate in a succinct manner, to assist in the full development of the students of Judson College by pro- moting fellowship, encouraging high academic and moral standards, and foster- ing a distinctively Christian environment in the college community, in accordance with procedures, rules, and regulations set forth in this and other college documents, and in keeping with the principles set forth in the Holy Biblef' With this purpose, the 1982- 83 Judson College Student Senate has been a success! 'Qlffff 1 i i i 4 l -srl- '-T awp, 3- The men's and women's chapters of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes remained quite active at Judson this year. Major FCAfsponsored activities included the FCA night at the Chicago Bull's game, the All- Stars basketball game against the faculty, and the an- nual spring mini-conference in which approximately 200 Chicagoland area high school and junior high students gathered on campus for a weekend of fun and fellowship. Conference speakers included Brent Hall, soccer player from the Chicago Sting, FCA President Erichson from Kansas City headquarters, and professional entertainer Rick Nielson. A very important part of this year's FCA was the establishment of 'huddles' or FCA chapters in area high schools. The women worked with Dundee High School while the men prepared to work with Elgin High School. Funds were raised from a variety of activities, in- cluding concessions at Judson sporting events, sales of old athletic uniforms, and a talent show. The women's chapter also participated in a Jog-a-thon. The Judson chapters meet weekly for an hour of prayer and share Bible Study, a game of basketball, or to hear guest speakers while at the same time strengthening their own commitments to the Lord and learning how to deal with situations in which a Christian athlete in today's world will often encounter. A group of dedicated Judsonites rose early on Saturday mornings and ventured out to two apartment complexes in Elgin and Carpentersville to pick up children ranging in age from eight to thirteen years old and bring them back to Judson. Most of the youth come from low-income families. The desire to reach more kids led to an expan- sion of the club as this is the first year they have contacted children from Carpentersville. Meeting in the gym, the club leaders conducted a Bible Study and then the kids were allowed free time during which they participated in such activities as basketball, volleyball and dodgeball. Carol- ing and Christmas shopping were a few of the special events planned. The leader and coordinator of this year's club was Nathan Potratz. Fans and players both enjoyed the ag- gressive pressing defense and a fastbreaking offense. Getting off to a fast start lwinning three of the four tournaments enteredi proved to be the norm for the remainder of the season. Many team goals were reached as well as several individuals receiving honors. A strong conference finish found them still a little short, having to settle for second. Several Judson records were broken this season including, most wins in a season, most steals in a season, most assists in a season, best field goal percentage, and highest conference finish in ten years. With many players return- ing, the 1983-84 season looks as bright as this past season.
