Judson The Year in Review . . . 1979 was a rough year for Judson as snow and rain ravaged the campus. Elgin received a record snowfall and that, com- bined with the melting snow caused two floods during the spring. Tyler Creek and the lagoon became one while the base- ment of Volkman Hall received 2 to 3 inches of water. The point was under wat- er most of spring tri . . . . . . '79 was also a big year for engage- ments. Director of Student Life, Sally Ackemann became engaged to Bill Bos- co Boscaljon. Lee Gowin and Eileen Gammell also made the big step. Engage- ments during the month of May were Rodger Fiorito and Mary Imhoff, Frank White and Pam Martin, Peter Borzeka and Marcia Hardy . . . . . . Two new events during the year that will hopefully become annual was Little Sib Weekend and the Male Beauty Con- test. Little Sib Weekend was held for all the brothers and sisters of Judson students to come and visit the school. Everyone en- joyed a pizza party, a basketball game and a Friends of Jesusl' concert. Ruth Neely was chairman of the event. Approximately twelve Judson males participated in a beauty contest during winter tri. They appeared in evening dress and sports wear and were judged on poise, looks and personality. Dave John- son won the contest . . . Ed Gelasi, after learning of his appointment to the Lantern editorship. World . . . Two major disasters occured in the world outside of Judson College. 784 followers of the Reverend Jim Jones committed mass suicide in Guyana, South America on November 18.
