FRONT ROW: Claude Berrout, Ernie Musikiwamba, Gashaw Abebe, Mark Gregory, Rich Ludwigson, Fareed Youkhanna, Reggie Smith. BACK ROW: Tim Rapson, Steve LeFevre, Fekade Zewde, Jon Winans, Bob Hoffmire, Steve Sherbondy, Bill Maffy, Dave Thompson, Steve Herington, Mike Glickert, Hapte Kassaye, Dave Martens, John Heinz. Many firsts took place in soccer this year as Coach Woody Smith led the mighty Eagles to the Co-championship of the NHC. Finishing with a 7-3-2 record C3-l-2 in NIICJ, the Eagles Went to the district playoffs for the first time ever to face Quincy College, a tough team who went on become NAIA National champs. It was the first time any Judson players have made All-District as Mike Glickert made the first team and Gashaw Abebe made the second team. Not only were Glickert and Abebe co-captains, but both re- ceived the co-Most Valuable Player award. Rich Ludwigson became the Most Improved Player, and Glickert was nominated to All-Conference. This year, Abehe also set Judson records for most goals per game 465, most goals per season Q75 and most points per season 1303. Experience helped this year as Heinz, I-Ierington, I-Ioffmire, Kassaye, Maffy, Thompson, and Winans, be- side Glickert and Abebe, were all in their last season. We were all proud of this great team as it was the first time in any sport that the Eagles have won the championship. 28 Soccer . . the Time Is Now Coach Woody Smith made a splendid debut as soccer coach as he took over the team this fall. A 1973 Judson graduate, Woody played soccer for four years at Judson, being All- Conference three times and Most Valuable Player three times. Coach Smith also holds Judson's record for leading scorer with 49 goals and 74 over- all points.

444 From the top are Tom Laxton, Larry Crane, Tim Etter- nick, Duane Young, Jim Fay, Randy Moore and Coach Kraus. Setting the Pace 1974 Cross Country .ff 1973 was a good year for Cross Country as they won seven out of ten dual meets, and placed fourth in the conference. Coached by Don Kraus and led by Captain Randy Moore, the Judson run- ners raced to the second straight winning season in Cross Country at Judson. All of the men received letters in the sport and fortunately none of them are graduating and all will be able to participate next year. This was also the first time ever that a Judson student has participated in national competition as Duane Young Went to Kansas to place 277th out of over 400 in the N.A. I.A. national meet. Duane also received the Most Valuable Player award for the team. 292524 In his fourth season as Cross Country coach, Don Kruas believes in victory. He was a cross country rimner at Judson before he graduated. He and his wife Maureen live in Elgin. Jim and Randy strive to Win. g 30
