From the first encounter of new friends to the last parting good-by it draws us closer to Him. Through it we become accustomed to new people and new ideas, making it easier to adjust to a new way of life. It is magnified by those who help us help ourselves, thereby allowing us to discover it. w w 4 4 V 1 A T 3 1 4 It is there as the ground is awakened by the call of new life in an old world already filled with archaic idealism and rigid conformity. Sometimes it is best exemplified by one person who shows concern for another. Although often hard to find, it has begun to grow in the freshmen who find it hard to adjust to college tradition. Beginning as a friendly fellowship, it snowballs into lasting relationships which will never be forgotten, even after college days are over. :IW 7 Just when it seems to be slipping away through cruel gestures and words, it reappears in a fresh form of communicative spirit A simple faith, a helping hand, and a sympathetic heart are the results of its influence on all, for none can escape it. Through it comes the molding of independent spirits into one being, searching for a deeper meaning to education, spirituality, and life in its entirety. As one ofits founders, he strove to pro- vide a Christian liberal arts college for dedicated men and women with an effective, inspired faculty, and every year Judson College moves closer to this ultimate goal. Under his direct guidance since 1967, the school has grown from a small, ob- scure private college into a thriving progressive institution, a new dormi- tory, new offices, new instructors, and a new curriculum have been added to the college's already bust- ing campus, and his influence on future expansion is immeasurable. Already well known and admired for his keen business sense, he brought to the school sound ideas and new policies designed to mold Judson into an integral, flexible in- stitution of education. Those who know Dr. Barton know Judson Col- lege, for he is Judson. He has always supported its principles, whether cheering from the sidelines ofa sports event or discussing school policies at a trustee meeting. Only his physical presence will be gone, for his ideas, hopes, and Christian example will linger to be enjoyed and admired by all who remain. vw' W-mga ,ff zf f 'X 'Y Nw ' fa. During the spring break forty members of the choir, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Thompson and Dr. and Mrs. Didier, toured Puerto Rico and Haiti. Besides singing many concerts in the churches of Puerto Rico and Haiti, the tour also included sightseeing and visits to the American Baptist missionaries there. In order to raise funds for the trip, the choir traveled to many churches in northern Illinois and gave Sunday evening concerts. In addition to the usual classical sacred music, the choir repertoire was extended to include the gospel folk musical Tell It Like It Is . Concerts including such a wide variety of music brought the choir success with audiences wherever they appeared. Helping Mr. Ed with the business of the choir this year were the following officers: Dan McCoy, President, Ruth Platz, Vice President, Sue Elson, Secretary, Roger Hazel, Business Manager, and Becky Walton, Librarian. 78 Choir Q Calhoun.
