Moments to Remember In the fall of 1960, 35 mixed-up freshmen sneaked through the doors of J.l-l.S. The first day was just terri- ble. Baffled? That wasn't the word for it! As registration day ended and a whole day of vacation ap- proached, we were relieved. The following day school started in full force, and in time we did figure out where to go for our classes. Yes, we had teachers. They were: Mrs. Lehnherr, home economics and freshman English, Mrs. Williams, sophomore, junior, and senior English, Mr. Wittlief, mathematics and science, Mr. Bartig, history, coach and physical education, Mrs. Brecklin, music instructor, Mrs. Siedschlag, business education, Mr. Brozovich, prin- cipal. Mr. Taylor, replaced Mr. Loberger after the first six weeks of school as agriculture and biology teacher. Mrs. Lehnherr was our advisor. As usual, there were class elections. In this first year of our high school career we were governed by: President, Russ Carter, Vice President, Bev Schmid, Secretary, Jane Brecklin, Treasurer, Mike Affolter. Dick Miller and June Anderson were elected to the student council. Sandy Helland and Dick Miller represented us in the second semester. We were really initiated this year and returned our appreciation of the dance by way of the Sophomore Re- turn Party. The Homecoming parade called for a float, so we arrived at a theme, Lettuce Atom, and set to work. The year went along as well as could be expected and ended with a class picnic. Our class went to Vilas Park in Madison, Wisconsin. What a day--ask any of us! In the early part of 1961, we were grieved when a beloved classmate, Lollie Bittner, passed away. At the beginning of our second year in high school, we had been decreased by one member. We were 11Sl161'2d in by an almost Lmfamiliar staff of teachers. The teachers who came back were: Mrs. Lehnherr,Mr- Taylor, and Mr. Wittlief. The new teachers were: Mr. Uetz, science, biology, physical education, and football coach, Miss Marti, music, Mr. Miller, English, Miss Carmody, business education, and Mr. Harkins, history, basketball coach, and English, second semester. Mr. Miller and Miss Marti were our class advisors. Mr. Brozovich, was our prin- cipal. The officers of our class were: Russ Carter, President, Gary Goecks, Vice President, Sandy Helland, Sec,-e- tary, and Larry Gempeler, Treasurer. Our student council representatives were Mike Affolter and Bev Schmid. Caroline Nafzger and Mike Affolter represented us in the second semester. We got to initiate the freshmen--Oh, what glory! And, we were delighted to order our class rings. Sandy Helland was elected as a B-team cheerleader. We ended our year again with a class picnic, this time to Apple River Canyon. Now we had passed the half-way mark in high school and as juniors we were welcomed back by Mrs. Lehnherr, Miss Marti, Mr. Wittlief, Mr. Taylor, and Mr. Uetz. We, in turn, welcomed some new teachers: Mrs. McGinnis, commercial, Mr. Caldwell, history and coach, Miss Hahn, English, and Mr. Blum was our new principal. After the first semester, Mrs. Williams replaced Miss Hahn as English teacher. Our advisor was Mr. Wittlief. Our officers were Russ Carter, President, Duane Sliedschlag, Vice President, Dorothy Coplien, Secretary, and Larry Gempeler, Treasurer. Mike Affolter and Sandy Helland were on the student council. We were proud to have Sandy Helland elected to the A-team cheerleading squad. This was a big year, what with class rings arriving, Junior Class Play, Hillbilly Weddin', being presented and, of course, the Junior Prom. Our Prom theme was Oriental Gardens, and Duane Siedschlag and Dixie Sharer reigned as our King and Queen. Members of the court were: Mike Affolter, Sandy Helland, Russ Carter, Toni Hilfiker, Larry Gempeler, Audrey Hummer, Tom Kaderly, and Caroline Nafzger. Jakie Kaderly and Donna Zimmerman were Prince and Princess. What a beautiful evening! For the second year, we decided to go to Apple River Canyon for our annual class picnic. For some reason our class has always enjoyed going there. We will not forget our class picnics for a long, long time. Here we are Seniors. Who would have believed it! ! Twenty seven we are in number, and twice as mighty! First of all, the teachers we met this year, as we started a high school year for our last time, were: Mr. Caldwell, Miss Marti, Mrs. McGinnis, Mr. Taylor, Mrs. Lehnherr, and Mr. Blum. The new ones are: Mrs. Adamson, English, and Mr. Murphy, science, physical education, and basketball coach. Mr. Blum and Mr. Wittlief are our class advisors. We are headed by Russ Carter with his worthy staff of advisors: Tom Kaderly, Vice President, Caroline Nafzger, Secretary, and Duane Siedschlag, Treasurer. Beverly Schmid and Mike Affolter head the student council for us. Sandy Helland again, in the spring of 1963, was elected to be an A-squad cheerleader. She is the drum majorette also. Homecoming, with our winning team this year, was a very important event of the year. We were proud to have the royalty and court of nearly all seniors. Beverly Schmid was our Queen with Tom Kaderly as the King. Caroline Nafzger, Russ Carter and Duane Siedschlag represented us on the court. They reigned over the dance, Moments to Remember. Dick Miller is editor of the PANTHER, with Russ Carter as the business manager. Sandy Helland edits the JUDEAN. In hopes of all going well, our Senior Class Play is scheduled for April 3, Class Trip, May 7-10, Bacca- laureate, May 24, and Graduation, May 27.
