TEXAS Dear Students, Throughout the pages of this I960 edition of The Chief, Members of jour annual staff have admirably preserved for you a pictorial record of those events which have highlighted the passing of another school year. Regardless of any outstanding accomplishments which the school may have achieved during the past months, the sole criteria for Judging a successful year is the progress which you as individuals have made both academically and socially. If you and your teachers have succeeded in advancing your thoughts and activities along these lines, we may consider the year's work well done. It is my sincerest hope that each of you has made and will continue to make the most of that which has been given to you and will strive to take your place among the good citizens of tomorrow. TOM has been very helpful as a supervisor in giving IQ Tests. She also gives students extra coach- ing in reading. MISS NELL DENISON is the school librarian. She has to keep die study hall all day long and that is quite a job. MRS. McMAHON can be thanked for the attractively decorated Home Eco. department and the active FHA group. Bus Drivers: Mr. Woelke, Mr. Wiley, Mr. Smith, Mr. Musch, Mr. Tenberg, Mr. Muckleroy. Mr. Hilburn, our custodian, is always hard at work keeping our classrooms clean and in good order. Kept busy preparing nutritious lunches for the students is the lunchroom staff; Mrs. Stazie Hon, Mrs. Marie Gaenzel, Mrs. Mary Ermis, and Clem Anderson. SENIOR CIASS PROPHECY We, the Jr. Class of 1959-60, took a look into our treasure chest and found among the jewels, a crystal ball. By long and careful gazing we saw our seniors of 1960 in the years to come. Mary Mendiola--known for her secretarial ability will become a secretary for die La Parita Savings and Loan Com- pany. Carolyn Lazano--known for her musical ability (singing such songs as Home, Home on the Range ) will compose a new state song. Rex Hon--known for his journalism ability will become a mild mannered reporter for a metropolitan newspaper. Jerry Haley--noted for his English ability and for being a pet of Mrs. Winters, will become her assistant. Lilia Gonzales--who sews well. wil$ get a job hemming cup towels. Membership in this chapter shall be based upon Scholarship. Service, Leadership, and Character. Candidates shall have spent at least one semester in Jourdanton High School, and shall be members of the sophomore, junior, or senior class. Candidates eligible to election to the chapter shall have a scholarship average of B, or 85%, or its equivalent. This scholastic level of achievement shall remain fixed, and shall be for this chapter the required scholastic achievement for admission to candidacy for membership in this chapter. All students who can rise in scholarship to or above such standard level shall be admitted to candidacy for election to membership. Their eligibility shall then be considered on their Service, Leadership, and Character.
