Freshman Initiation Scenes Third Year Girls Planting Roses Chapter Farmer Team; Pfeil, Najvar, and Salazar Greenhand Team: Vrana, Bender, and Parchman CHAPTER ACHIEVEMENTS The annual Winter Garden District FFA Leadership Contest was held in Cotulla on Tuesday, November 9, 1954. Twenty-seven Jourdanton FFA members went with their advisor, Mr. Ray Meyer. The Greenhand Farm Skill Demon- stration Team composed of Willie Vrana, Albert Bender and Jerry Parchman won a first place banner. Chapter Farmer Farm Skill Demon- stration Tearn composed of Erven Pfeil, Billy Joe Najvar and Alberto Salazar won a first place banner also. Farm Radio Broadcast composed of George Strickland, Will Henry Meyer, and Eugene Lame won a second place pennant. Public Speaking entered by Henry Netardus won a second place pennant. All banners and pennants were furnished by the Central Power and Light Com- pany. The Jourdanton FFA entered a float in the Armistice Day Parade here November 11, 1954. The newest organization in Jourdanton High School is the Chapter of the National Honor Society. On April 11, 1955, the Pleasanton National Honor So- ciety Chapter inducted twenty-three students—seven probationary and eighteen active members. THE FOOTLIGHTERS The Footlighters is a drama group organized on theJ.H. S. campus this year. Officers for the year were Beth Atkison, President; Angela Steinle, Vice President; Joyce Winters, Secretary-Treasurer. The group has presented three one-act plays during the year. The junior members produced Jinxed. The sophomores, directed by Joyce Winters, put on The Florist Shop. ” This Way to Heaven was put on in Interscholastic League com- petition and won first in District and Area and third in Regional. Cast members were Joyce Winters (Best Actress - District, second - Area), Beth Atkison (Best Actress - Area and Regional), Charles Shoemake (Best Actor - District and Area, second - Regional), Travis Hayden (second - Area), George Strickland (Stage Manager), Suzanne Adams (Special Sound Effects), and Mrs. Houston Winters (Director). Both groups have made much progress during the year and have been invited to perform on various programs. S. campus this year is the choosing of a WHO'S WHO. To be chosen for this honor the student must be a junior or a senior and a member of the National Honor Society. This means that the student must have a scholastic average of at least 85 and an equivalent grade in a teacher rating. In the teacher rating, students are graded on citizenship, leadership, and service of every type. Our WHO'S WHO is composed of the six juniors and seniors who had the top scores on this teacher rating.
