Fast, versatile and hard hitting, she is equipped for whatever tasks the future might bring, and just as her predecessors, the fighting strength of JOUETT is deter- mined by the ability of her crew to utilize her sophisticated equipment in a team effort. One of the latest class of guided missile frigates to be authorized by Congress. JOUETT is significantly different from her recent predecessors in that her anti- air warfare capability has been improved with new radars and additional data control systems, and her anti- submarine capability enhanced with the newest and most powerful bow mounted sonar. Displacing 8.000 tons at full load, JOUETT is 547 feet in length and 55 feet in breadth. A 1200 psi steam propulsion plant with two engines developing 85,000 shaft horsepower drives her at top speeds in excess of 30 knots. The former JOUETT NEWS was born on 22 June 1974, under the journalistic abilities of Josn Dan West, and was dedicated by Captain R. F. Stalder, Jr., as our official WESTPAC 74 newspaper. On 25 June 1974, the NEWS was taken over by PNl Myron N. Wambold to allow Josn West more time with NZTV, JOUETT ' s television station. Under the guidance of LT Mike Charlie Chaplain Halley. PNl Wambold auspiciously created, with his staff, what was to be called The Ratline . Creative and artistic abilities were produced by YN3 Ray Dunn with his exquisite covers, and SK3 Dennis Sullivan with his creation of Okie Dokey . The Ratline was published once a week underway and was used as a backboard for articles ranging from regular ship ' s news to cartoon characters based on shipboard life. The staff of The Ratline consisted solely of volunteers who con- tributed their extra time for its publication. Reproduction artist, PNSA Motto.
