Cormack was born in Ambur India in 1937 the son of Dr. Margaret L. Cormack. South Asian scholar and Dean Emeritus Raymond Callison College University of the Pacific and the late Henry lan Cormack of Edinburgh Scotland and Madras India a British businessman and Major British Indian Army C1939-455. Captain Cormack who grew up in India and California graduated and was commissioned USNR from Stanford University in 1959. His first billets were as CIC Officer on the San Diego-based destroyer USS OZBOURN QDD-8465 and the newly- commissioned guided-missile frigate USS COONTZ KDD-405. After augmenting into the regular Navy he served briefly as Aide and Flag Lieutenant to the Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Force Pacific Fleet. In November .1963 Captain Cormack took command of the ocean-going tug USS KALMIA KATA-1845 and later served as the Officer-in-Charge of a Military Assistance Program patrol ship ' From june 1965 to june 1967 Captain Cormack attended the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomac Medford Massachusetts where he received a Master of Arts in International Relations and a Master of Arts in Law an Diplomacy. After graduate school he returned to San Diego as Operations Officer of USS MAHAN IDDC--423 and later served as Surface Operations Officer for Commander Cruiser Destroyer Flotilla SIX. In january 1970 he was transferredtouthe Office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington as an action officer in the Strategic Plans and Policy Division. Captain Cormack returned to the USS COONTZ CDD-401 as the recommissioning Executive Officer in March 1972 serving in that capacity until january 1974, Next Captain Cormack transferred back to Washington where he worlced directl for the Chief of Naval Operations until Ianuary 1977 as the staff member of his CNO Executive Panel responsible for po itical-military affairs. ' On june 13 1977 Captain Cormack assumed command of USS SPRUANCE CDD-9633 and completed the first deployments of the class to Northern Europe Africa South America and the Sixth Fleet. USS SPRUANCE won the squadron Battle Efficiency E in 1978. In july 1979 Captain Cormack returned to Washington for duty as the Military Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy serving Ambassador Robert W. Komer and Dr. Fred C. Ikle. In August 1981 Captain Cormack was sglegted by Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger as his Military Assistant serving in the immediate office until 8 . On March 10 1984 Captain Cormack assumed command of USS IOUETT CCG-291 a San Diego-based guided missile cruiser. Captain Cormack s awards include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal Defense Superior Service Medal Mertiorious Service Medal with old star and Navy Achievement Medal. Captain Cormack is married tot e former Cathy Wagner of Portland Oregon long-time executive assistant to Senator Bob Packwood CR-ORD and most recently an executive with the National Republican Senatorial Committee. I3 CDR Heyworth was born in Annapolis, Maryland and graduated from St. I: james High School in Hagerstown, Maryland in 1966. After graduating from lg the U.S. Naval Academy in 1970, he reported to USS Davidson IFF 10451 in Q Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as the CIC and Electronics Material Officer. CDR N Heyworth attended the Naval Destroyer School in 1973 and was then or- Ig dered to USS Koelsch IFF1049l homeported in Mayport, Florida. In De- B, cember, 1975, he split-toured to the San Diego based USS Cayuga ILST 1186l It where he served as Chief Engineer until August 1979, After a tour at the U.S. is Naval Academy where he was assigned duties as a company officer, then as lb the Executive Assistant to the Commandant of Midshipmen, CDR Heyworth I3 was attached to the Staff of Commander, Cruiser Destroyer THREE where he lb was the Flag Secretary. Following his detachment from the staff duties in tt December, 1982, he attended the prospective Executive Officer's course in bg Newport, Rhode Island. He reported to IOUETT as Executive Officer and left Ig IOUETT on September 28, 1985 by helicopter for his new duty station in lb Washington, D.C. W lb CDR L. Heyworth 'S I3 lb lb 2nd XO w LCDR Sherry was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from ST. lb Frances Prep School in Brooklyn in 1966. While in High School he was at awarded the New York State Regents Scholarship for College. lb After his graduation from Fordham University in 1970 LCDR Sherry en- Ig tered Officer Candidate School and received his commission into the USNR bg in November 1961. He then reported to USS Barry IDD-933l, homeported in Q Newport, Rhode Island and Athens Greece, as Damage Control Assistant and - tg 1st Lieutenant. On 14 November 1975 LCDR Sherry reported aboard USS Q Leahy ICC--167 where he served as DCA, CIC and Operations Officer. From gb january 1969 to August 1980 he served as Operations Officer on board USS fb Bigelow IDD-942l homeported in Mayport, Florida. In November of 1980 he 3 , reported to USS Reeves ICG-24l homeported in Yokosuka Iapan where he W served as Weapons Officer. LCDR Sherry attended the U.S. Naval Post 8: . Graduate School from September 1982 until june 1984 and was subsequent- lg lwkghi ly posted to USS jouett ICC.-29l and assumed duties as Executive Officer.
