C PT I R. R. ROBERT O JR Captain Robert R. Robertson Jr., a native of Houston, Texas, received his appointment as Ensign, United States Navy, upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy in 1954. He studied at the United States Navy Postgraduate School, the Naval War College, Harvard Business School, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. His first assignment was to USS H. J . ELLISON CDD-8641, where he served as Gunnery Officer and ASW Officer. In June 1957 he traveled to Balboa, C.Z., where he assumed command of USS JASPER CPC-4865. Following that tour Captain Robertson returned to the United States Naval Academy as a Company Officer. Captain Robertson subsequently served as Executive Officer, USS COURTNEY CDE-10215 and USS BARNEY CDDG-65 and Commanding Officer of USS MITSCHER QDDG-355. Staff assignments have included Commander, U. S. Second Fleet and Chief of Naval Operations. Captain Robertson is married to the former Anne AV. Capps of Norfolk, Virginia, and they have nine children. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V , Joint Services Commendation Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. Captain Robertson reported to the JOSEPHUS DANIELS after completing a tour as OperationsfPlans Officer, Staff, Commander CruiserfDestroyer Group Eight. '

EXECUTIVE OFFICER Commander Ellis graduated from the University of Norte Dame and received his commission from Officer Candidate School in April 1962. His shipboard assignments have included tours as Communications officer of USS O'BANN ON CDD-4505, Engineer Officer in USS ROBERT K. HUNTINGTON CDD-7813, Operations Officer with the re-commissioning crew of USS LUCE CDLG-75, and Executive Officer of USS RICHARD E. KRAUS CDD-8495, USS BORDELON CDD-8811, and USS JOSEPHUS DANIELS CCG-271. From August 1969 to August 1970, Commander Ellis commanded River Division 573 and River Division 532 successively in the Mekong Delta. In other assignments, Commander Ellis served on the staff of Commander, Military Sea Transportation Service, Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean at Bremerhaven, Germany and Fleet Combat Direction Systems Training Center at Dam Neck, Virginia. Commander Ellis attended Naval Destroyer School in 1964. I Commander Ellis, whose home is Houston, Texas, is married to the former Susan Haines of East Moriches, New York.
