Besides being a basketball pro, Al served as President of the Student Body. People worry too much about how other people feel about them. I myself have enough trouble controlling my own thoughts, so, in turn have little time to worry about the thoughts of others. A . Outside of school, Glenn's time was filled with caring for his horses. He attended Davidson College and the University of North Carolina. Mr. Zemp has previously taught at the College of Charleston and Camden Military Academy. Mrs. Rowell teaches our musically inclined stu- dents. She serves not only as our Band Director, but as the music teacher for the first through fourth grades. She attended Converse College and is a Youth Choir Director. Andrew Williams is the custodian at j.K.A. He also helps Mrs. Blackwell run the lunch program. His hard work, dedication, and kindness help make l.K.A. the special place it is. A new addition to j.K.A. this year is Ken Downey. While at the Universi- ty of South Carolina, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree and has taken on the responsibilites of teaching Biology, P.E., and English. Mrs Matthews is in charge of our Middle School Sci- ence Dept. She also teaches Social Studies to her 5th graders. Mrs. Matthews attended Columbia College and received a B.A. , , . fo- ,169 NX! Mrs. Konizer helps with the Montessori school. She attended Furman University, ob- taining a B.S. in Chem- istry, and Converse College, obtaining a M.A.T. Before coming to l.K.A., she taught Chemistry and Physical Science in Columbia for 3 years. Mrs. Grant, our Typing and Chemistry teacher, has taken on the new responsibility of running our Guided Studies program. She attended An- derson College, where she earned her Secretarial Degree, Coker College where she' obtained her B.A., and is now enrolled in the U.S.C. Masters Program. Before coming to 1.K.A., Mrs. Grant taught at Robert E. Lee Academy and was the bookkeeper for Grant Enterprises. X ..m: Our First grade teacher, Mrs. Rapp, is a native of Orlando, Florida. She attended Florida State Uni- versity and Barry College in Miami. She taught in Hawaii for 3 years before coming to l.K.A. She has 3 children. :t r Q.:-at - ,, Our new English teacher and librarian is Mrs, Judy Ford. Mrs. Ford attended U.S.C. ' Q.. is ,U W 1 -nik, ,A,,,..---- Mrs. Clarke is our art teacher, as well as an assistant treacher in the Montessori Program. She received her Art degree from U.S.C. Mrs. Clarke is a well known artist in the Camden area. Mrs. Kekelis is the P.E. teacher at J.K.A. She attended Lake Eerie College where she majored in P.E. Mrs. Kekelis, in addition to her teaching responsibilities, is in charge of the annual l.K.A. Horse Show. Mrs. Thompson is an assistant teacher in the Montessori Program. She attended Colum- bia College. Mrs. Thompson was the former Director of Christian Education of Presbyterian churches. qi M4 1 ? Mrs. Penman, while not teaching our 6th and 7th graders English, Reading, and Social Studies, is working on her M.A.T. at U.S.C. She attended Converse College and the University of South Carolina, obtaining a B.A. degree. Mrs. Penman has also taught in Charleston, S.C. and in Harrisburg, Pa, Mrs. Sweet runs our new Montessori program and teaches language arts to the fifth graders. She received a degree in Applied Behavorial Science at the University of California. Recently, she received her Montessori degree after studying under Dr. Helen Billings, founder of the Montessori Institute of America. Mrs. fourt Mrs. Blalock is the Office Manager at j,K,A. She attended the University of South Carolina where she studied accounting. ln addition to doing virtually all the paper work for the entire school, Mrs. Blalock serves as the school nurse. Blackwell teaches h grade. ln addi- tion, she has taken on the enormous respon- sibility of catering our lunch program. She at- tended Converse Col- lege and taught at Pine Tree Hill before com- ing to j.K.A. Mrs. Primrose Green has returned to l.K.A. as our second grade teacher. After earning her B.A. degree at Converse, she taught for two years at Camden Primary and five years at j.K.A. Mr. Buckley teaches our third grade class and is a member of the disciplinary commit- tee. He has attended the following colleges: The University of Notre Dame, L'Univer- site Catholique de l'Quest, The University of Iowa - B.A. in French, and Wheelock College - M. Ed. Cur- rently, Mr. Buckley is studying toward Mon- tessori certification. Mr. Buckley has taught preschool and kinder- garten, 5th through 9th grade French, and open 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms. Mr. von Keller, while not teaching high school history, serves both as Director of Up- per School and Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee. At the University of South Caroli- na, he earned his B.A. in history and his M.A.T. ln addition, he studied on scholarship at the University of Warwick in England. Mr. von Keller has been certified as a class B coach by the U.S. Soccer Federation and has coached the J.K.A. soccer for the last four rr'- 'JFS in-.s Q Mrs. Mgartineau is in charge of the French Department at l.K.A. She has attend- ed the following colleges: The University of Alberta - B.A. in Foreign Lan- guage, Rice University - M.A. in Foreign Language. She is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Foreign Languages. Mrs. Martineau has taught in France, at the University of Houston and at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. Mrs. Kitty Ashley teaches algebra and elementary math. She attended the University of South Carolina where she earned her B.S. degree. Mrs. Ashley serves as the M.S.S.C. sponsor and is our choir direc- tor. Mrs. Ashley has previously taught P.E,, art, health and math. Mrs. Stewart teaches geometry and senior math. Q rf A,-, 3 'NW The ninth annual Miss Epaulet Pageant was an event everyone looked forward to, and, thanks to Mrs. Gloria Martineau, Mr. Ted von Keller, Mr. lohn Buckley, and Belk of Columbia Mall, the pageant was a great success. Twenty-one girls competed for the titles of Miss Freshman, Miss Sophomore, Miss junior, Miss Senior, and Miss Epaulet. During the halftime of the Varsity Boys game, Jeannie Larkin, sponsoring Al Carmichael, was crowned Homecoming Queen. janell Reames, sponsoring Phillip McCorkle, won the title of Homecoming Princess, and Lisa jones was elected Senior Class Representative. Other members of the Homecoming Court were: jo Ellen Howle sponsoring jack Zempg Rochella Rabon for Richard Minges, and Kim Carmichael for Paco Olano. Tullie Fellers was elected as Freshmen Representative, lane Oates was the Sophomore Class Representative, and Stephanie Baxley was chosen as the junior Class Representative. CF?
