Michaelangelo’s knowledge of num- bers enabled him to paint his beautiful classics. The deaf Beethoven com- posed his beautiful music because he had a basic knowledge of mathemat- ics. Searching for the mysteries of life through numbers was the goal of many young mathematicians. The Mathematics Department at Jordan proved to have an excellent program for a diligent mathematician. Begin- ning in Algebra I, students studied binomial and linear equations. Spe- cific properties of angles and polygons were examined by Geometry pupils. Progressing to Algebra II, the assiduous student calculated more arduous polynomial equations. Finally, the adept mathematician studied Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry and or Analysis. For the less skilled mathematician, General Math 1 and II, Business Math, Shop Math, Modem Math I and II, and Practical Geometry were also taught. PREPARING FOR A TECHNOLOGICAL SOCIETY Microscopes . . . bioscopes . . . telescopes . . . experimenting . . . questioning . . . observing . . . Today's complex society is highly technological. To acquaint students with scientific technology and reason- ing which will help them to understand more about technology was the aim of our Science Department. The Science Department included courses in physical science. Biology I, Human Physiology, physics, and chemistry. From dissecting frogs in biology to observing the properties of hydrogen in chemistry, students were involved in a unique experience of learning. This experience was intensi- fied by the use of films, filmstrips, records, bioscopes, and microscopes. Research projects were required in most classes to further individual development in the sciences. Guest speakers such as Charles Betty from the Cerebral Palsy Center visited to pro- vide more information for students. its 911 THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING AN AMERICAN — Hamburgers . . . football . . . apple pie . . . parades . . . Fourth of July . . . celebrations . . . All of these spell America. What is the true meaning of being an Ameri- can? Why is the past so important in preparing for the future? These questions were just a few of those being answered in social science classes. This department included classes in American government, American and World History, World Geography, and Sociology and Eco- nomics. To aid in this study, films, dramas, and debates were instituted. Mock presidential elections were held in government classes. A trip to West- ville brought a bit of the past to life and a visit to the government center aided students to observe political fig- ures at work. Individuals had the chance to become more knowledgeable by enter- ing the Social Science Fair. Projects, which showed the students' ingenuity and imagination, ranged from geogra- phy to anthropology. 117 LITERATURE - A UNIVERSAL MEDIUM MACBETH . . . ’ Thanatopsis . . . THE SCARLET LETTER . . . JULIUS CAESAR . . . ROMEO AND JULIET . . . THE CRUCIBLE . . . Literature Is universal - the mean- ings and ideas that form literature are common to all people. By studying lit- erature we can learn the religions, beliefs - the characters of past and present civilizations. We can under- stand that ancient people basically do not differ from the people of today. A combination of American and English literature was studied in ninth and tenth grades. Juniors focused exclusively on American literature; seniors emphasized English literature. The pen is mightier than the sword is a trite phrase. Learning to master the parts of speech and the cor- rect usage of the language is essential for all writers. Through the years, writers have proved that good writing techniques are needed to express one's soul on paper. Jordan students studied these techniques. Drama was offered to aid students in better self expression. Plays and other recitations were given for student enrichment. 19 WISDOM THROUGH WORDS ”He utters empty words, he utters sound without mind. This quotation from Virgil points out that words are verbal expressions of our inner thoughts and feelings. Moreover, the Human Engineering Laboratory, an institution which tests people’s apti- tudes. has found that the only common characteristic of successful people in this country is an unusual grasp of the meanings of words. Only when we master words, when we gain a strong command of the English language, we can truly achieve success in expressing our thoughts. To conquer this goal, Jordan students had the opportunity to study Vocabulary and learn the true meanings behind words. Vocabulary is the study of words - connotations, denotations, synonyms, and antonyms. Origins of words are studied to understand why certain words have evolved into today's mean- ings. Vocabulary is exceptionally useful for the college-bound student who desires to make a high score on the College Board Examinations. 120 STRIVING TO COMMUNICATE PAZ . . . PAX . . . PAIX No matter which language, the meaning is the same - PEACE. Communication is important between not only ourselves but also people of other nationalities. It is only through communication that we can better understand other nations and finally achieve world peace. Students enrolled in a Foreign Language class at Jordan acquired this ability to commu- nicate with people of other nationali- ties. They also gained insight into a culture different from their own. Reli- gions, customs, and beliefs were included in the course of study. To aid in their study, teachers used film strips, films, photographs, and models. These visual aids helped to bring foreign people to life before the student. Tape recorders and phono- graphs were used, enabling students to hear the language being spoken by a native tongue. An additional language, Latin, was added to the curriculum of French and Spanish this year. 121 PREPARING FOR THE TRADE AND INDUSTRIAL WORLD Drilling . . . noise . . . welding . . . drawing . . . sawing . . . Trade and Industrial Education was a very important part of many students' course of study. Imponant skills were learned through the duplication of jobs found in ordinary industrial businesses. Students not only mastered these skills for jobs, but also learned techniques applicable for everyday life. Jordan offered seven areas of instruc- tion in Trade and Industrial Education from which the student could choose. From learning to tune an engine in auto lab to servicing a television set in electronics, students worked in an industrial environment. Equipment used in the labs was identical to that used in industry. Other shops included machine, electrical, wood and mechanical drawing. Students received basic instruction in the sheet metal and welding lab. 123 PREPARING FOR THE BUSINESS WORLD The clanging of typewriters . . . the chattering of adding machines . . . the meditative expression of Shorthand students . . . The business department at Jordan offers a vocational program designed to develop skills, knowledge and atti- tudes that are necessary for workers in business occupations. When finished with a course of study in the Business Department, students were prepared to either enter college or earn their own income. The business department at Jordan offers three curriculums from which a student may choose: (1) The clerical Curriculum leads to positions such as clerk typist, and many lines of general office work. Courses included Typewriting, Accounting, Business Principles, and Business Law. (2) The Stenographic Curriculum leads to positions such as stenographer, secretary, or receptionist. Student choosing these curriculum selected courses such as Introduction to Business Skills, Record Keeping, and Short- hand. (3) The Business Management Cur- riculum leads to such positions as accountant, business manager, and business owner. Courses taught in the curriculum include Transcription, Data Processing, Office Practice, and Office Machines. 124 STUDENTS GAIN EXPERIENCE IN THE BUSINESS WORLD You work that you may keep pace with the earth and the soul of the earth. This statement proved that Kahlil Gibran understood the importance of work. This year, many Jordan students learned the importance of work when they not only attended school but earned an income. Students on the work programs wanted to earn their own spending money while gaining the valuable experience of working in the business world. Good attendance and passing grades were mandatory of these students. For a student in the work program, classes began at 7:45 every morning. O period was an hour spent in rela- ted study. Then the student had to study at least three hours of the school day. The rest of the day was spent in on-the-job training. Juniors and seniors were placed in the program which best suited their needs. Vocational Office Equipment included job positions such as book- keepers, secretaries, and office assist- ants. Distributive Education was avail- able to students with job positions such as cashiers and clerks. Industrial edu- cation and vocational skills were included in Diversified Cooperative Training. Cooperative Foods treats of food preparation and sales. 125 STUDENTS IMPROVED DRIVING SKILLS The honking of horns . . . Z exer- cises . . . the squealing of tires . . . T exercises . . . Many students took Driver Education only for the ten per cent discount given by many auto insurance companies. Others wanted to learn new driving skills thus making them more knowl- edgeable and adept drivers. Starting in classroom instruction, students learned different driving tech- niques, traffic laws, and safety. Com- puting auto insurance rates - the kind of insurance to buy and the amount needed - was taught to interested stu- dents. Following classroom instruction, students began using their knowledge on the driving range. Skillful handling of the car was needed to conquer the T exercise, Z exercise, and parallel parking. After completing work on the driving range, students practiced on- street driving. Concluding the course, students received a certificate stating they had successfully completed the course. 126 BOOKS - THE TREASURES OF LIFE ’A good book is the precious life- blood of a master-spirit, embalmed and treasured upon purposes to a life beyond life.” With this quotation, Milton understood the importance of books. Books are the sources of previous collected information and are essential to all Jordan students. To best facili- tate erudite students, Jordan offered a large and useful library. Students who enrolled in Library Education not only helped peers better understand their library but also benefited themselves. Assistants helping in the library checked books in and out, shelved books, and filed cards. Keeping the card catalog up-to-date and issuing magazines were among their duties. The course taught these students val- uable information applicable to any library. They developed better study habits by using books other than their textbooks. They also learned how the library is arranged, enabling them to find materials quickly and easily. 127 HEALTHIER BODIES LEAD TO HEALTHIER MINDS Football . . . sportsmanship . . . baseball . . . excitement . . . teamwork . . . basketball . . . ” A healthier body leads to a health- ier mind. To achieve a healthier body and also to have fun, students enrolled in Physical Education. Good sportsmanship and teamwork were two of the many lessons learned. P.E. included a variety of organized games. Students were taught the basic fundamentals of these games. Sports included football, basketball, volley- ball, softball, golf, and tennis. Wres- tling, tumbling, archery, and weight training were included in the P.E. program. Muscle coordination was emphasized in the program. Students were taught the importance of toning the muscles and other general physical care. Students learned to work with peers in a common effort as teamwork and cooperation is essential in competitive sports. 128 STUDENTS DEVELOP RESPONSIBILITY THROUGH ROTC Cadets . . . officers . . . drills . . . uniforms . . . rifles . . . practice . . . Gaining self-discipline and self- confidence were the two main goals of Junior ROTC students. The ability to motivate and lead others - the ability to gain respect from peers - is impor- tant in any career. These qualities were also stressed. Junior ROTC students studied Ameri- can military history which provided understanding of the military role in current events. Marksmanship instruc- tion familiarized students with the .22 caliber rifle - safety precautions and maintenance. Hygiene, first aid, and teamwork were integral parts of the curriculum. Citizenship and leader- ship were emphasized in each year of the program. Junior ROTC also provided enrich- ment activities. Included, were drill and rifle teams, field trips, and sum- mer camps. Social events such as the Military Ball were also held. 129 CARING FOR HOME IS STILL IMPORTANT Cooking . . . cleaning . . . aprons . . . changing diapers . . . caring . . . Home economics can lead a studeni to a more responsible adulthood. This course can teach students the necessary duties needed to maintain a more effi- cient home. Above all, home eco- nomics teaches them the importance of caring for a home and family. Girls were not alone in their home economics classes. Thirty boys joined the girls to learn how to freeze foods, sew aprons, care for children and other essential household duties. A variety of activities were insti- tuted by the home economics classes. Among them was a community project in which the classes visited a nursing home. They were visited by a Gas Light Company representative who gave a demonstration on how kitchen appliances work. Through home economics students learned proper nutrition and prepara- tion of balanced diets. Also, because of their instruction, many students are capable of sewing their own school clothes. 130 BEAUTY EXPRESSED THROUGH ART An is noi an end in itself, but a means of addressing humanity. These words from Moussorgsky truly reflect upon the importance of an. An is a form of expressing one- self - of letting the true soul transfer to a medium. Through an one can learn to appreciate the beauty in nature, but most of all the beauty that lies within himself. The art department of Jordan High School was involved in numer- ous activities throughout the school year. During the last week of Octo- ber, the depanment was involved in a Halloween Window Painting Con- test sponsored by the Downtown Bus- iness Association. Their Bicenten- nial Window earned the students second place and a $25.00 cash award. An students worked with a variety of mediums throughout the year - pencil, pen and ink, tempera paint, and construction paper. They also worked in sculpture, weaving, and stitchery. The final six weeks, students did an independent study in which they chose their own medium, design and technique. To help boost Jordan's spirit. An II students painted Jacket designs in the school weight and gym room. 131 RED JACKET - PRODUCT OF ALL JORDAN STUDENTS Layouts . . . deadlines . . . head- aches . . . laughter . . . copy and REWARD! Each year, members of the Red Jacket annual staff strive to produce a better annual. Many nights found dili- gent students still hard at work. By the end of the year, though, twenty-six individuals had merged to form a ’’family.” Anxiety and apprehension - common feelings in those final days before deadlines. Yet when com- pleted, the Red Jacket represented all who were a part of Jordan. August 18 marked the beginning of the vear for several staff members. A weeK-long seminar, held at Hardaway High School, proved productive for Jordan students. Students walked a wav with top honors including Best Staff Effort, Best Business Manager, and two awards for Best Photography. The literary department was taught correct procedures for preparing lay- outs, copy and photographs. The busi- ness department was shown how to pre- pare a budget and how to handle sub- scription sales. Composing, focusing, and developing better photographs were demonstrated to the photography department. 132 A NOSE FOR NEWS Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Informing students of all of the activities at Jordan was the job of the Carmine and Grey newspaper staff. Reporters roamed the school gathering facts and collecting news items. Edi- tors checked details in layouts and copy. Laboring long hours, students strived to meet dead-lines. Finally, at the end of each six weeks, another issue was printed and sold to the stu- dent body. To assist in publishing a better news- paper, staff members attended the Georgia Scholastic Press Association (G.S.P.A.) held in Athens. G.S.P.A. which sponsored many workshops, aided the students in producing better copy and lay-outs. In past years, Jor- dan had earned many top awards pre- sented by G.S.P.A. Another work- shop, sponsored by the Columbus Ledger, also aided reporters and edi- tors. The staff also sponsors The Most Representative Underclassmen and The Best Dressed Student Contest which honors the student who shows the most originality in clothes. 133 MUSIC - THE HEARTBEAT OF LIFE Chords . . . octaves . . . harmony . . . alto . . . flats . . . festival . . . sharps . . . Music - the heartbeat of life. Music is as old as man. It began with simple drum beats to express thoughts where language did not yet exist. Today, it has evolved into a sophisticated medium of chords and harmonies. Everyone has the music in him. It is an individual choice on the expression of this music. One way to express music at Jordan is through Choral which consisted of the Girls Chorus, a Mixed Chorus, and Chorale. Girls Chorus was formed pri- marily of Freshman girls while the Mixed Chorus consisted of both boys and girls. The Chorale was formed from the most advanced group of sing- ers at Jordan. The Choral students had a number of chances to express their talents. They performed at various churches and on the Rozell Show in addition to two Christmas concerts, one being held in the Peachtree Mall. The Choral department has always taken top honors at the Spring Festival in addition to individual achievements at All-State Try-Outs. 134 BAND SPARKLES THROUGHOUT YEAR Marching . . . heat . . . practice . . . anxiety . . . drills . . . audi- tions . . . Sparkling performances at football games, Christmas concerts, and Spring Festival kept the Jordan Red Jacket Band active all year. Composed of 110 students, band practice was evident in each presentation. The Red Jacket majorettes and flag corps worked through the summer per- fecting dance drills and routines. Attending the Heart of Dixie Camps in July, the majorettes and flag corps received one of five participation awards. August 18th marked the beginning of an assiduous year for incoming fresh- men and all new band members. The following week, returning musicians joined the novices. Working as much as five hours a day, the band worked toward perfection in their marching drills. The highlight of the football season came with an invitation to per- form at a pre-season game of the Atlanta Falcons. With marching equipment stored in late November, the band turned their attention to Spring Festival. For twenty-eight consecutive years, the band has received Superior Ratings at this Festival. 35 VOCATIONAL OFFICE TRAINING The Vocational Office Train- ing course enables students to develop their abilities as office workers while they continue their education. In the Balloon Sale, held on January 17, the Jackets won the intraschool system competition by netting the most money and having the most participants present. On January 5, the four student advisors, along with the faculty advisors, attended a banquet held at the Holiday Inn where Columbus volunteers were cited for their service. 164 JUNIOR CIVITAN Accomplishing their goal of promoting good citizenship in school and community life, members of the Junior Civitan Club participated in a variety of community-oriented activities. Mr. Lewis, a native of Columbus, returned from a coaching job in Head- land, Alabama, to head Jordan's athletic program. Spurred on by a region record in pass- ing and the best rushing attack in the Bi- City, the Jackets ended their season with six wins and four losses. Red Jackets dominated the Bi-City team with Lorenzo Kindrick, Roosevelt Jordan, James Holland, Lorenzo Little, Jacob Weldon, Calvin Felder, and Danny Marshall on the First String; and Eddie Passmore and Frank Klobe receivng hon- orable mention. Spencer dominated the first half, hold- ing Jordan to six first downs in the first quarter. After the Jackets' drive stalled near midfield, Spencer took control but was unable to score from the 20. Jordan took the ball on the 24, but Roosevelt Jordan fumbled and the Green- wave defense pounced on the ball. Roosevelt Jordan and Gordon Gris- would, rotating, tested the Spencer defense and moved from the Jordan 18 to the Spencer 45 yard line. Lorenzo Kin- drick's mnning and passing proved to be the key factor in the Jackets’ first victory of the year, 14-6. 209 Lojtujyv Last year, when the Red Jackets met Lanier, the win came by forfeit. This year, in a steady rain, they earned their win by thundering over the Poets 22-0. This was the second consecutive win for Jordan under the new Coach Fred Lewis. The first Jacket score came on the first possession of the Poets. On the first play of the second quarter, Bernard Irby inter- cepted a pass, returning to the Jackets' 44. The next seven plays resulted in a score as Lorenzo Kindrick completed a pass for 17 yards and another score. Still another Jacket score came as a result of a Poet mistake. Lorenzo Little scooped up a pitchout and ran 37 yards for a touchdown. With 4:12 left to go in the third quarter, the Jackets led 16-0. The Red Jackets’ final score came on an 85-yard drive downfield by tackle Eddie Passmore. The drive lasted 12 plays. The big play was a fake punt as Lorenzo Kindrick passed for 31 yards to Calvin Felder to mn away with the win 22-0. Womh i Robbias The Red Jackets’ first disappointment of the season came when the Northside Eagles upset them 34-14. The win set Northside’s record at 2-0. Jordan got on the scoreboard when Kin- drick and Felder hooked up on a 50-yard touchdown pass, with only 4:12 remain- ing in the third quarter. Jacob Weldon added the extra point. The Red Jackets final score came when Roosevelt Jordan received a screen pass from Lorenzo Kindrick and raced 82 yards for a touchdown. AJowpji Robots Fans who turned out to see the Jordan- Warner Robbins game witnessed a gutsy clash. The Red Jackets played in heated fury but the Demon's depth and running proved to be too powerful for them. 211 Uaruhju ay Pre-game publicity billed the Harda- way-Jordan game as an offensive show. Herman Hunter and Kenneth Huff leading the Hawk’s ground game against the Jacket's aerial attack led by Lorenzo Kindrick. The Jordan High Marching Band had barely cleared the playing field when Kenneth Huff bolted for Hardaway's goal; scoring untouched. Jordan took the reins in the beginning of the second quarter as Lorenzo Kindrick sneaked over from the one. Jacob Wel- don's point after attempt was good once again. However, the Jackets' lead was short- lived as Huff once again raced 76 yards for another touchdown. Jordan came right back and regained the lead as Lorenzo Kindrick rushed 93 yards to cop another touchdown. Hardaway unveiled their version of the old sand-lot special to tie the game once again. Undaunted, the Jackets pulled a trick play of their own as Kindrick threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Hil- dreth with 9:25 left in the game. Jacob Weldon added the extra point, and the spirited team enjoyed a short seven-point lead. Hardaway scored again, then added a two-point conversion setting the margin of victory at 29-28. 212 fC idnick Lorenzo Kindrick and Steve Woods, the two leading passers in the region, clashed head on when the Jackets faced the Ken- drick Cherokees. Lorenzo Kindrick completed 14 of 34 passes he attempted for 251 yards. The Cherokees’ counterpart, Steve Woods, did not have one of his better nights. Kendrick stayed close to the ground, piling up 213 yards rushing, but only 6 yards passing. Jordan gained 392 yards in total offense pushing their record to 3-3. The Red Jackets held the Cherokees on Lorenzo Kindrick’s passing ability to win the game, 28-14. 213 BdW Roosevelt Jordan's running teamed with Lorenzo Kindrick’s passing was more than the Baker Lions could handle. Lorenzo Kindrick, leading passer in the region, connected three touchdown pas- ses to complete nine of seventeen for 170 yards. Roosevelt Jordan ran for three touch- downs as he ran away with the rushing honors gaining 226 yards in 14 carries. Jordan scored within the first two min- utes of the game gaining 65 yards and scoring the first seven points. Later in the first quarter, Baker cashed in on a fumble at the Jackets' 36. The rest of the show was run com- pletely by the Red Jackets. Jordan re- entered the game and took 47 more points defeating the Baker Lions 54-15. 214 Cj W I Like the Memorial Stadium score- board, the Carver offense was not work- ing when the Red Jackets' defense put on its best performance. Carver unsuccessfully attempted to perform the single wing offense and the wishbone. The Tigers only managed to gain 63 yards while the Jackets gained 128 yards passing. Gordon Griswould ran for 11 yards; then Jim Boan raced for nine more. After an incomplete pass, Bernard Irby drove for three yards; then Boan carried it in for the score. The final Jacket score came with less than four minutes left in the game. Lorenzo Kindrick, who was the leading passer in the region, had a great night hitting 11 of 23 for 157 yards and two touchdowns. 215 Cofuftibus The shoe was on the other foot this year as the Red Jackets' explosive offense ral- lied to demolish the Blue Devils, 64-21. There would be no stopping the Jackets as they set out to retaliate against Columbus for the previous season's record. Lorenzo Kendick began the rout as he passed to Calvin Felder with a 64-yard touchdown pass. Jacob Weldon provided the extra point to make the score 7-0. Jordan increased their lead as Roosevelt Jordan scored on a run of two yards. The exciting play in the drive was a 47-yard pass from Kindrick to Jordan. Columbus came back moving 71 yards to score. However, the touchdown only angered the Jackets as they returned to score on a 54-yard pass from Kindrick to Bernard Irby to bolster the score to 28- 13. Ever-proud, the Blue Devils were determined not to give up and scored again when Lynton Moffett capitalized on a Jordan fumble. Very little time lapsed, however, before the Jackets began regaining the points lost. Moving 51 yards in seven plays, Jordan scored on Gordon Gris- would's three-yard run to set the score at 35-13. At the beginning of the second half, the Red Jackets gladly returned to their task as Calvin Felder went 11 yards on a double reverse to score tapping a 65-yard drive. 216 Cjtodn dl Putting a clamp on passing star Lorenzo Kindrick, the Cen- tral Red Devils drove for touch- downs to surpass Jordan in the battle for the Bi-City Title 14- 7. A six-yard pass from Kindrick to Ernie Durden was the Jacket’s only touchdown. The play brought the 20th scoring pass for Lorenzo Kindrick, the senior who set the Region 2-AAA pass- ing record of 1,666 yards. Running back, Roosevelt Jor- dan, entered the game with 1,077 yards rushing and got 32 yards in nine carries. Central’s winning touchdown was a one-yard run by Billy Jackson. 217 218 Rolling over every team they met on the field, the 1975-76 Baby Jackets avenged their previous season's record of 6-1. The Frosh standouts Kenny Hyde, Charled Carter, Nollie White, and Pete Singleton took the upperhand in captur- ing the Bi-City championship. Self- assurance and team effort were two great assets to the spirited freshmen. Coach Bobby Howard declared the 75-76 fresh- men players were the best group of fresh- man athletes he has ever seen. Winning the Bi-City title may very well be proof of this. 219 VfotStty Through victory and defeat, the cheerleaders kept Jacket spirit flowing as they urged the crowds to cheer. This dedica- tion inspired both the football and basketball teams to a win- ning season. We're from Jordan, couldn't be prouder! Tension mounted. The crowds were wild with excitement. Jordan would soon claim another victory. The Varsity Cheerleaders, standing on the sidelines, kept their poise as they began another cheer. Left to Right: Anneise Goes. Shells Miller. Losing to Hardaway, the team made a comeback by defeating Spencer but then lost to Baker. The next game with Carver brought victory. Returning from the Christmas holidays, the girls defeated Columbus by 13 points and then lost to Kendrick on an unfortunate night. Spirited by this defeat, the team returned to conquer unde- feated Carver by 10 points. The game with Spencer was won by a margin of 21 points but then the Jordan girls lost to Manchester in a non-region game. Jordan lost to Hardaway in their last game of the season and ended with an 8-4 record. The girls remained undefeated in the Sub- Region games. She ended her fifteen- year teaching career in 1975 after having taught English at Jordan High since 1960. Mrs. Hayes, who served as advisor for the Frank C. David Chapter of the National Honor Society, was named STAR teacher during her years at Jordan. Mrs. Hayes attended Hendrix College in Arkansas, and the University of Georgia. She has been married for forty years. She and her husband, Colonel Hayes, have one son, Jack, who is a professor at Mississippi Medical School. They also have three grandchildren. Mr. J. C. Easterling taught at Jordan High a total of fifteen years. The first ten years of his service were spent in teaching physical science and physics. The latter five years he served as the night school principal. Mr. Easterling, who holds a Masters of Science degree in secondary education, attended Birmingham-Southern College, Georgia Southern College, Mercer University, and Georgia State University. In his leisure time, he enjoys fishing and hunting. He resides near Ozark, Alabama, and is a member of the First Congrega- tional Methodist Church, of Ozark. She enjoys caring for her house plants, reading, and watching television as well. She is a member of her church choir. Mrs. Knowles grew up in Columbus and started teaching in 1954. Twenty-one of her twenty-three teaching years were spent at Jordan, where she taught basic mathematics. Mrs. Imogene Presley retired in 1975 after having contributed 35 years to secondary educa- tion. She began with Jordan in 1936 at the old Columbus Indus- trial High School (Jordan's fore- runner). In 1950, she stopped teaching. Six years later she returned to Jordan and taught there until her retirement. While at Jordan she instructed students in French and business education. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and attended the Mississippi State College for women. A forty-year resident of Columbus, Georgia, Mrs. Pres- ley has one daughter, Miss Jan Presley, who is a teacher at Jor- dan.
