The Youth Preferred Scholarship of one thousand dollars, presented by citizens of the community, and the Frank N. Justice Memorial Scholorship of five hundred are awarded to two deserving seniors selected by an established committee. The Bessie Brooks Memorial Scholorships are presented to students interested in training for health careers. Siler City Manufacutring gives a two hundred dollar scholarship to a deserving student recommended by the faculty. Collins and Aikmanpresents a fifty dollar scholarship to the senior with the highest scholastic average. Best-All-Around Senior boy and Senior girl, Outstanding Bus Driver, Outstanding Typist, and Outstanding Business Student—all selected by the Paula Dodd faculty—and the Citizenship award voted on by the student body, are other honors Outstanding Typist coveted by J. M. Students. 54 Leadership Achievement Mitchell Simpson has shown outstanding characteristics of leadership in his many achieve- ments. He was voted to the office of Honorary Mayor by the student body andthe Optimist Club selected Mitchell as the outstanding youth. He was presented a letter of com- mendation because his score onthe National Merit Scholorship Test ranked in the upper percentile of the seniors in the nation. Mitchell was nominated and selectedto attend Governor's School this summer in Winston-Salem where he was voted President by the student body.
