This fact I feel that we, the students of LM., have realized this year more than ever before, and I feel too that we have attempted to make our Student Council a medium through which much good could be accomplished for our school. Ea ch year, Beta club members s p end a weekend at the state convention, meeting members from other clubs all around the state and gleaning bits of information to promote the work of their own council. Hard-working Betas assist the annual staff by soliciting ads from local merchants . The Beta Club is a national, non-secret, achievement, service organization which seeks to foster honesty, service, and leadership. Students of the tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades whohave attained an average of 90 or above are eligible to join the Beta Club. Th es e members must also exhibit qualities of leadership, scholarship, and character. Ea ch year the Beta Club sponsors the PI-IANTOMAIRE. For most members, the highlight of the year is their attending the state convention which is held each spring .Meetings of the Beta Club are held on the third Wednesday of each month under the leadership of Mrs. Mae Lane and Mr. Murray Andrew. 'I-ley! give us a hand with this piano, plead these monogram members as they are getting ready for the annual Talent Show. To be com e a member of the Girls' Monogram Club, one must earn her letter in either b a s k e t b a ll or cheerleading . Monthly d inner meetings are held at Bill's Good Food with Mrs. B.D. Howard as advisor. To sponsor their yearly projects, the girls sell programs during home football g ames and hold a talent showin the spring. Past projects have been the installation of an amplifying system for the gyin, the erection of a flag pole for the school, and the installation of curtains for the gym stage. It is built on the foundation of leadership, character development, and improved agriculture. Future Farm ers spend interesting sessions gaining knowledge which will help them both in the present and the future. Mr. Bill Poindexter, again our advisor this year, has encouraged and directed the group in several helpful projects. Membership is open to any junior or senior who is interested in exploring teaching as a career and who has the high qualities of character, personality, scholarship, and leadership essential to a good teacher. With the guidance of Mrs. Gladys Brewer, sponsor, the members are made aware of the responsibilities, the opportuni- ties, and the satisfying rewards relevant to teaching . ia, ,....-...l No worry about a teacher shortage if all these students go into teaching as a profession! The Library Club sponsored a Book Fair which greatly increased the students' interest in books. 36 The purpose of the Library Club is to stimulate reading interests of the s tu d e nt s and to promote ef- ficient o p e r a 1: i o n of the library. Students who have an SO average and a special interest in the library may join this club . The members of the club are responsible for k e e p in g our main bulletin board a ttr a c t iv e and up-to-date. The club also attempts to s t im ul a t e school spirit by keeping a scrapbook inwhich school activities are recorded. Under the leadership of the school librarian, Mrs. Mae Lane, club members learn the responsibil- ities of a librarian's job. They also gave concerts and participated in band days and Christmas parades. Adding to the band's appearance with their flashy routines W ere the majorettes-Tiny Bosman, Linda Hough, Barbara Liles, Cindy Griffith, and jane Cox.
