Q5 fQIf'U!0l 8 Page 8 In 1900 boys and girls walked to school, or a few fortunate ones rode their bicycles. In 1900 When John got up on Monday morning, he had more to Worry about than getting out of a nice Warm bed and turning off the alarm. John had to get up much earlier so he would get to school on time-after dressing in front of the coal-oil stove in the front room, eating a hot break- fast, and doing his morning chores. And then, after his mother packed his lunch, he would have to Walk five miles to school, Whether it be snowing, sleeting, raining, or sunny outside. But in those days, John did not mind, because he Was accustomed to it, and besides, he would probably meet some of his friends who had to Walk the same distance, or even farther.

She has only to hope that her electric alarm clock Will ring half an hour early, so that she will have sufficient time to decide which skirt and sweater to Wear, and quickly dress, Then, after eating her Wheaties, and applying her PINK LIGHTNING LIPSTICK, our Suzie dashes out the door in the direction of the school bus-stop a half block away. But just then, Johnny comes 'round the corner in his new Oldsmobile and honks. Suzie piles in with the rest of the gang, and thus starts a typical school morning in 1950. Page 9
