To me the price of peaceseemed too great until I watched members of my own class go off to War and, unbegrudgingly, give their lives that I might have a better world to livesin. Of all the things I've crowded into my education in my stay at Senior High, I reluctantly realize that it took these lives to teach me --and the entire world-a lesson We would learn no other way. Without peace human life is worthless-that yesterday in the scales of life-greed and hate overbalanced kindness and love. With death, they piled high on these scales faith and hope. Along with such names as Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson ...... these names sha.ll remain hrmly in our memories and in our America. September 9, '44 Dear Diary. n Today I experienced the most thrilling and most terrifying time in my life! That of entering high school! With my chin held high I stumbled up those golden stairs where I was greeted by those fully :ure-dffully mellowedu seniors. As I was groping around the halls to lind the room which was to be home base I wondered if I would ever remember to go down on the left and come up on the right. I dicln't!l December 10. '44 Dear Diary, School days are getting to be more and more fun all the time. After being at J. H. S. for three months. I feel as if I really am in the groove . Finding my classes is much easier. and also I d0n't leave my locker open nearly so often!! W e chose Henry Robertson to be our president and to lead us on the bumpy road to success. . March 11. '45 Dear Diary. We really had the seniors in a whirl over the Joplimo Queen con- test with our candidate, Kathleen Cearnal. It took us to show our eltlers just what brainy guys and gals we have in the blue sky of the auditorium. And remembering that simply heavenly military ball gives me goose pimples . S. with my spirits soaring and my head held high, I tried to look the 'thigh and mighty senior those sophies and juniors expect me to be. An Hupperclassmanngsomehow that word frightens me even more now that I am one. Jeepersl December 10, 1944 Dear Diary, Vlhat a life! Being the big-cheese is strictly t'Okay . Getting to walk out first from assemblies, ordering announcements, being measured for caps and gowns-- WHEW! We are really Well-guided, having Alan Sandford as our Class President. Jack Leipard does the honors for the entire student body, having been elected Student Council President. Three's our lucky numberfgeorgous Martha Fergerson has rep- resented our class every year as candidate and this year was Queen. Also our football team came through three victorious years. We're ridin' high! May 18, 1945 Dear Diary, Today I stepped off my pink cloud-for today I graduate. I'n1 beginning to realize the seriousness of being a graduate. No longer will I be able to enjoy the privileges of being a student in J. H. S. I really tried to be all laughs and smiles for Class Day but inside I thought of all the members of our class of '45 that weren't with us. As I sit here in my cap and gown with my diploma in one hand and my pen in the other I must Write you my last goodbye. I close you only to open another-my diary of the outside world.
