B. Carey Director NAP' The success ct an orchestra depends largely upon its conductor. The success of lones similarly may be attributed to our director, Mr. Clarence B. Carey. l-le has proved to be an inspiration to the students in Whatever tasks they have undertaken. His con- structive interest in all ot our activities has encour- aged us to strive tor greater recognition and higher goals. His sympathetic understanding and good advice has helped many ot us to meet problems intelligently and to solve them tearlessly. Mr. Carey will dwell in our memories as a triend who has contributed much to our success at lones and our hoped-for success in the business world. Words are quite futile when we of the graduating class try to express how much our director has meant to us. To you, Mr. Carey, we say a sincere thank you tor making our stay at lones as bright and happy as any two years ot our lives will ever be. page eight P N UE- 'F-.,.FE E' .,'?'IL-SIC L.. pcrq nm L.. Each semester, Mr. Wilkinson has directed much of his time and effort towards bringing the chorus to a higher plane of excellence. Under his direction the members have presented some very colorful and lively operettas which have delighted all who attended themi The most recent performance was the hilarious OH DOCTOR! given at the Morrison Hotel. The cast included Mary Alice Connor, Richard Van Heel, Lorraine Frost, loe Candeila, and George Weisbecker, who, with the supporting cast, made the operetta an outstanding event of the year. The girls worked under the able guidance ot Mr, Franklin business adviser of the IONESITE. Cordial thanks are extended to the rnany neighborhood business concerns who ourohased advertisements BUSINESS STAFF Getting orders is the easy part ot our work, but collecting the nioney keeping the records in good order are quite the opposite. When the books C off the press, the reoords are straight and we deliver the IONESITES. page sixty-iour 0- Q7 9 Ve f JE gli' Q EDITORIAL STAFF Are those drawings ready? Where is that write-up? Why aren't those pictures cut? Smile for the photographer! These always anxious, sometimes despairing cries will never be forgotten by the Editorial Staff. We werent always laughing at the time they were made, but now that the yearbook is finally completed, we breathe a sigh of relief and recall, fondly, each chuckle-filled moment. As we flip through the leaves of our creation each page has an added meaning, for we recall the slave-labor, the endless stumbling blocks, the happy assumption of the late Simon Legree's tactics by our sponsor, Miss Thorning. Nevertheless, we missed Mrs Legree during her five- week absence and were thankful for the witty and generous assistance given by Mr. C'Neill and the cheerful prodding and unswerving enthu- siasm of our Editor-in'Chief. Thanks are due the faculty, also, for their cooperation in the matter of pictures and general information. From them and from the students we ask no more than the thrill of satisfied smiles as they view this book and the knowledge that they are thinking, Well done! EDlTOFtIAl. What pleasant menicries we Ionesites stored up for ourselves during the past two years. Our happy lones days will be re-- called time and time again. lntermingled with memories of exam weeks and long nights of tedious study, will be the gay dances and happy festivities of our little gray schoolhouse on Ply' mouth Court. Loud plaid shirts and blue jeans were the fashions of the day when teachers and students joined in carefree companionship at our Sadie Hawkins' Day celebration in October, '45 . . . Remember? . . . Then there were the class dances at Lane and Crane lalways huge successesj at which we be- came better acquainted with our classmates and where the hours seemed to possess wings . . . Luscious cake and cookie sales, sales of sur- prise packages, sharnrocks, and, at Christmas time, stockings, were but a few of those original events which helped to brighten up our days and also to swell the funds in our class treasuries . . . We'll not forget the show, Modes and Moods, or the thrilling aays spent at the CMA conven- tion by the fortunate ones of us who were Recep- tionists . . . What pride we took in presenting a telephone skit to prove to a group of business men that lonesites were telephone-conscious. We remember the eager and shining faces of students as they proudly displayed their talents and classrooms to admiring parents and friends at Cpen House last November . . . We think of iolly roller skating parties . . . hilarious Christ- mas celebrations in our beautifully decorated division rooms . . . entertaining amateur shows cn Friday afternoons . . . elections for Good Morning Queens, Valentines and St. Patricks Day Queens' '... and the glorious climax, the Senior Prornl What a grand compilation of activitiesl lones- ites have reason to be proud of their school and thankful for the opportunities it offers them.
